B-24H "TWO TON TESSIE"

March 28, 2023 · in Aviation · · 19 · 0.6K

I built this model from kit number 5629 to honor my Uncle Harold Fox Jr.. He was the ball turret gunner aboard the aircraft when it was shot down over Austria in May of 1944. He bailed out and survived. I did a lot of research to try and depict the real aircraft. There weren't a lot of photos around. With the help from groups like The 449th Bomb Group, the National Archives, and some custom and regular decals I was able to make this model authentic.

Glad your uncle was able to bail out and survive the war.

  4. Nice build and an awesome story, Robert! šŸ‘

  5. Good looking build and great story. We are lucky that with a little work you can get decals printed or even print your own. Your plane would make a nice little decal sheet for someone building the B-24J kit.
I am working on artwork for a set of decals for a B-26 that my high school teacher flew in during WWII. He was very inspirational to me, and was lucky enough to get a couple pictures of him and his plane. Now with ICM releasing the B-26 I have a good reason to build it.

  6. Nice reply. It seems you learn something new every build.

  7. Well done on the story and the build, Robert. A great tribute!
