38 - Italeri 1/35 ABM 41/42

June 28, 2023 · in Armor · · 22 · 417

Well when I saw this awesome desert vehicle with that daunting camoflage I just had to attempt it - My 1st scale vehicle and man was I impressed with Italeri. What a great kit.

Started with assembly on the drive train and the body and not any issues anywhere.

Tried some rust effects on the exhaust by thinning Tamiya putty with Tamiya extra thin and daring that onto the exhaust with an old toothbrush - gave a very nice effect.

The main Breda 47/32 AT gun comes with a metal barrel which is a nice addition and the kit comes with some PE too.

Did some preshading in brown to try bring out some of the detail, then thin layers of the base colour.

The only way I could think to do the camo was freehand so off I went.

I did some chipping with a sponge which I really found great and effective

And then finished it off with all the bits and pieces, Loved this vehicle, had a lot of fun with it and was very happy with how it turned out - thanks for reading.

  1. @anthonyricco - Very nice work once again Anthony... It seems like you must have 10 overlapping builds going at the same time, all the time. You are a prolific builder! The freehanded camo looks amazing. Most likely how it was actually done so probably no need to stress too much. Your weathering/chipping seems incredibly realistic as well. The steering wheel angle does seem like it would be challenging to drive though. I've never driven a vehicle with a negative angle on the wheel like that.

    • Sure you have. Sdkfz 251/250 German halftrack.

    • Thanks so much Brian @brithebuilder. Yes I like to work on 3-4 projects at a time, usually a military, civilian, sci fi and then another something small - seems to help me not lose mojo, because I can build what is interesting me on that day, also if something is drying or I need to wait on a part etc, I can continue to build.
Some of these are also being uploaded and were completed in the last few months, just trying to get the articles together for them.

Thanks for the camo and weathering comments I really appreciate it - I found it a really nice scale to work on these types of things on. You can get quite detailed.

Yes the steering wheel is an odd angle hey I guess it just got held on top. Nice in the baking hot desert sun. Hahaha

  2. Nice job, Anthony!

  3. Great work on this amazing vehicle, Anthony, I guess you’ll be building 1/35 armour.

  4. Looks great indeed. The AT gun mount is cool, metal barrel a nice bonus.

  5. Absolutely one of your best builds, Anthony @anthonyricco
Great results on your newly techniques like the rust on the exhaust.
    Well done.

    • Wow, thanks so much John @johnb - yeah it was one I'm quite proud of thanks - and very happy to try new techniques, I do try to learn something new on every build. Appreciate the comment.

  6. Fantastic build, Anthony! Well done!

  7. This turned out awesome, Anthony. Thanks for sharing it. I’ve been curious about that kit.

    • Thanks John @j-healy - I'm not an armour modeler but I thought the kit was really nicely made. I have the other Sahandriana one in the stash still which comes with the figures so looking forward to that one.

  8. @anthonyricco - Hey Anthony, I also have to say I really like your image editing and how you always have the kit name behind the model. Do you use Photoshop?

  9. Just wonderful work. These are very machines and you did a terrific job with the weathering.
