Airfix Mitsubishi B-21 Zero, 1/72
Alright ladies and gentlemen, calling this one done.
Airfix Mitsubishi Zero B-21, from the Dogfight set. Carrier Soryu, Battle of Midway, June 4th 1942.
AK Interactive and Ammo Mig acrylics and a Ammo Mig panel line wash in ocre.
As always with these japanese colors, it is very hard to properly photograph them. I really have to get a proper light box at some point.
Easily passing for a beautifully made 1/48, Felix! What a wonderful job!
Jasou Spiros @fiveten, thank you for your kind compliment!
The colours look great, Felix, much better than some models which are just plonked on the modellers working place with a background of their collection of paint jars (no names, no pack drill, but you know who I’m talking about).
Hey, You talkin' 'bout me? 🙂

Hey Bill @billkoppos, this looks great- what is it? It's a 1/32 scale, right? The colors are awesome. I love the colors used by the Japanese.
Yes a 1/32 alley cat conversion. Color is bashed from Tamiya browns. Japanese colors are interesting especially the Army types. Working on a 1/72 ICM Sally.
Dear George @chinesegeorge, thank you very much for your kind feedback. I was hoping to be able to auction a photobox this week but i lost the bidding.
It isn't "B21" - that is the designation for "Second Carrier Group."
Nice work on this little gem.
Dear Tom @tcinla, thank you for your compliment! The B21 makes sense - i was wondering about that too in the instructions since i had never heard of such a number linked to the Zero. Airfix seem to be a bit sluggish with their research when it comes to 2nd releases of their kits. E.g. I also placed the numbers on the landinggear door the wrong way but simply because they are not even indicated in the instructions.
Great looking Zero very nice paint and weathering.
Hi Dave @dtravis, thanks a lot for your nice feedback!
Good things come in small packages. Some strong work Felix.
Dear Stephen @stephen-w-towle, thanks a lot, very kind of you! Pedro Rocha's amazing 1/48 Zero was my inspiration. It can be found on this website.
Great build Felix. That looks lovely 👍
Thank you so much, Guy @thom! Makes me feel rather proud!
An excellent result, Felix @fxrob
Hard to believe this is 1/72.
The weathering and painting does look perfect to me.
Hey John @johnb, thank you very much for your kind words! However, i do think you exaggerate 🙂 There is always something to improve, right? Next time i am going to the radio wire and frankly, the wheels are a bit shaky.
Great 'lil Zero. Does appear to be 1/48. The "marbling" technique seems to have really enhanced model paint jobs.
Dear Bill, yeah i invested quite some work and time into my preshading. I like the outcome and it is really the part in building models that i enjoy the most.
Nice work, Felix! These new Airfix kits are always fun.
Hi John @j-healy, thanks a lot! Yes, these 1/72 Airfix kits are a delight. They have lots of details but at the same time not too many parts. Which allows me to proceed to my favourite part of modelling which is the paint job. I loved the Tempest and the Spitfire Vc and Mk 1 in 1/72, next up will be a Hurri.
Looks great, Felix. Well done!
Hi Gary @gwskat, thank you very much!
Great Painting! Did You use aftermarket decals?
Thank you very much Bernard @lis! No, these are the regular decals provided in the dogfight box. But i have some additional Berna Decals for Zeroes which i plan on using on Airfix Zeroes.
Very nice paintwork for 1/72 - a great-looking Zero!
Hi Greg @gkittinger, thanks a lot! Really appreciate that!
Very nice Zero Felix! It could pass for a bigger scale model. And the J3 is just about right 😉
Hi Pedro @holzhamer, yeah that J3 looks good, does it not 😉 I got inspired by a beautiful 1/48 Zero on this very site! 🙂
Great job on this, sharp looking build!
Hey Bob @v1pro, thanks a lot for your kind words- i had a lot of fun building it!
Very nice!
Thank you, Robert @roofrat!
Well done! The Zero looks great.
Hey DJ @juan2six, thanks a lot! Glad you like it - guess all the preshading paid off after all 🙂
