Spitfire Mk XII

July 30, 2023 · in Aviation · · 7 · 349

This is the 1/32 Revell Mk IX kit converted to the Mk XII. It represents one flown by R H Harries in No. 91 Squadron. He was the top ace in Griffon engined Spitfires with 10/1 of his 15+3 sh/2/5?

  • I used the Grey Matters Mk XII set for the nose, spinner, prop
  • Barracuda Spitfire cockpit set and cockpit decals, wheels, and oil cooler
  • Decals from kit and the spares box. Used Alclad gloss before decal placement
  • ModelMaster interior green, and AK RealColors for Ocean grey, Dark green, and Medium sea grey
  • very light general weathering with fluid stains done with gloss coat mixed with pastel chalk
  • I actually built this over a year ago, but my cats were curious after I rearranged my hobby area. Repairs were necessitated.

  1. The Revell kit is definitely a much better place to start than was the Hasegawa Mk. V I used with the Greymatter conversion 10 years ago. Great result!

  2. Excellent result, Steve!

  3. Great work on the conversion, Steve @jimmiesteve

  4. Terrific conversion.

  5. Looks fast sitting still. Very well done. Furry little menaces are the model's biggest threat!

  6. Great-looking Spit - well done!

  7. Thanks you all
