Wingnut Wings Albatross D.V: The mount of Fritz Rumey and M.C. Escher's anomality
Years ago, when Wingnut Wings was in business, I received the 1/32 Albatross D.V for review.
I chose the mount of Fritz Rumey with the black lines spiraling along the fuselage on white background. Instructions specified that there were two parallel black lines of different width. Once I started with the masking process, I realized that the two-dimensional drawings in the instructions are misleading. The drawings suited a cylindrical body whereas the fuselage is conic in shape. Hence, keeping parallel lines is impossible. This was one of the most difficult painting scheme I ever completed. The solution was to replace the parallel with converging lines toward the front and back ends of the fuselage.
In the review, I made a remark about M.C. Escher's hyperbolic geometry drawings and the Albatross camouflage scheme. Do you think that I received more models for review from Wingnut Wings afterwards?
@blackmopane - Fantastic work Rafi, the stripes must have been an incredible challenge. I believe you mean M.C. Escher though.
Thank you Brian and also for the correction.
Ain't it M.C. Escher? I Youse'd to have a coffee table book of his stuff.
Yeah that paint job will definitely get you crossed eyed. Looks good tho.
Indeed, Bill. Thank you.
I've never seen anyone else get that scheme even close to right. Cheers for you and if WNW didn't like the Escher comment, well - they're out of business and you aren't.
Really nice, Rafi!
And yes, it is M.C. Escher as the print on my wall says. And you're right that this is definitely in Escher territory.
Thank you Tom
Now that is next-level finishing. Just incredible work.
Thank you Matt.
Here comes the vertigo. Very complicated paint job and good
Thank you Steve.
Excellent result, Rafi! My hat's off to you for the amazing rendition of the paint scheme!
Thank you Spiros!
A great result, Rafi @blackmopane
Not only the build itself but especially the painting is outstanding.
A far from easy task to get those lines done correctly, but you clearly did it.
Thank you kindly John
Great work, well done for realising how the colour scheme should be and for carrying it out correctly, the rest of the build is very impressive as well.
Thank you George.
Excellent results on a challenging finish, job well done.
Thank you Mark
Whew - you are a better man than I for attempting a scheme like that! Came out great, and not just the spiral paint job!
Thank you kindly Greg.
