A6M2 Zero (Nakajima build) from Edaurd in 1/48 scale
Here are few photos from my actual build of Eduard´s 1/48 scale A6M2 Zero "out of box". Kit are quite good, except missing some rivets and panel lines on rear part of fuselage. Building kit are easy with some nice details, like wheel wells or whole cockpit. It looks good without using of photoetched parts (but I have used coloured seatbelts or dashboard from kit).
GSI Mr. Surfacer 1000 and Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black was used for preparing of kit surface before paint. I have used mostly Tamiya acrylics paints thinned with Tamiya Lacquer Thinner retarder type (orange top) for main camouflage. For details was used a mix of paints, that I have usualy using like AK Interactive Extreme Metal paints or Tamiya enamel paints. I was used a lot of techniques for make worn effect and chipped paints. Very helpful was Síra hobby chipping fluid. That worked very well. I love this kind of weathering.
Whole markings was airbrushed through my own masks made on my Silhouette plotter into Oracal 810 masking foil.
For final weathering was used Tamiya panel lines accent colour enamel washes or drybrush with 502. Abteilung artistic oil paints. Most weathering was made with help of my Harder & Steenbeck Evolution airbrush (limited Squidmar edition).
My kit represented Mitsubishi A6M2 Model 21 (Nakajima build) "02-888" from 301 Hikotai, 201 Kokutai, from group of aircraft around pilot Yukio Seki before his suicidal flight 25 October 1944 from airbase Mabalacat in Philippines.
I could finished my project with big help of my friend Jan Kanov and of corse mr. George Eleftheriou with his wife Kiri. I hope you like it.
On display base are Rising sun flag with "Shikishima-tai". It was airbrushed with MRP lacquer paints on plastic box made from styrene sheets 2,0 mm thick. It looks better on competetions 😀
With kind regards Jakub "Kubrt" Vilingr
Excellent build and weathering.
That's outstanding. Excellent paintwork on a historically significant plane.
Amazing work!
Superb work on that model!
Outstanding!
What an amazing result, Jakub @jakub-vilingr
The weathering is indeed a work of art, looks very realistic.
Beautiful series of pictures clearly telling how you performed this build.
I hope, that my photos from build could be interesting for other modelers. Zero was only testing kit for learning of chipping technique 😀
Real talent on display here, and a lot of research to get things right. This is a highly realistic result.
Good catch that the Tamiya XF-76 is actually the "Nakajima" factory color.
Japan airplanes isn´t my usual cup of coffee. I´m mostly building Luftwaffe airplanes between years 1935 - 1945.
I love working with Tamiya acrylics paints. They are fantastic. I´m chosen shades from their offer. I don´t know, which my shades are exactly accurate, but chosen shades are according to IJN airplanes:

Interestingly, Gunze-Sangyo has Nakajima, Mitsubishi and Kawanishi dark green, Nakajima and Mistsubishi grey-green, and Nakajima, Mitsubishi and Kawanishi cockpit green, as well as "Cowling Color". Now that my local hobby shop is stocking Gunze, I picked them all up.
The green overspray is very good, as is the weathering details in most areas. Splendid work!

The base complements your excellent model very well.
Excellent job, Jakub! Fantastic painting and weathering!
The chipping effects and weathering are absolutely beautiful.
Coolest A6M build I've ever seen. Kudos to you.
Wow - that is a beauty! I'll try to copy your technique on a Zero build soon...! 🙂
Good 🙂 I am courious for your future build. Japanese camouflages are really interesting and difficult to paint. It is big challenge 😉
Beautifully done!
