Revell 1/72 Blohm und Voss Bv 222 V2
While not the largest operational aircraft in the Luftwaffe, the Wiking performed effective service through transporting supplies and personnel. With six engines, it was still underpowered and required a long stretch of (quiet) water before gaining a lift off. Yet, the Jumo diesel engines provided endurance and reliability for the long howls. Operation theatres were mainly the Northern Seas, Mediterranean and Arctic Circle. The majority of the dozen production aircraft were lost in battle.
The V2 aircraft was famous for the drop of a spare tire to a stranded FW 200 Condor damaged during a rescue mission in the Arctic. The temporary white camouflage was applied specifically for that mission.
Revell's Wiking is a very good kit with a solid design. To emphasize the rugged look of this giant, I added "dry" weathering that contradicts the conditions where the aircraft operated, but does the job.
Fantastic result on this giant of the skies, Rafi! Excellent job on a very good kit that few could have imagined that we would see in mainstream form (thank you Revell). Certainly, a kit that deserves to be built more.
Weathering is superb!
Thank you Spiros!
This is crazy good, Rafi @blackmopane. The weathered looks is superb!
Edit: I love that matte look of the colors and i would love to see what kind of preshading you did.
Thank you Felix!
I did very little pre-shading to preserve factory applied clean lines. And then, temporary white followed by heave dark and brown staining.
The weathering looks superb, Rafi, thanks for sharing this giant with us.
Thank you George.
Well done, Rafi.
Thank you Gary
When it comes to the weathering you did, it looks very good. If I ever would build this plane that would be the effect I’d look for 😉
Very good model, too bad there’s no trolley to put it under. It sure must be big judging by the size that goes beyond the photo lens
There is (or was) a resin-trolley. I forgot the producer (maybe ICM). I have it in my stash, but need to find it after moving from Germany to Korea.
Thank you Pedro.
The trolley was made by CMK.
Never considered one because I hang the beast on the wall, on top of my PC...
Superb work Rafi
Thank you Ian.
so spectacular!
Thank you Lis!
Absolutely lovely. This is one to be emulated as much as possible by mortals.
Thank you Brian!
That is a well done build, I love your paint work, it is very well done. A friend of mine built this kit and have to say it quite impressive even in 1/72nd scale. You really made a beautiful showcase of an important if not well known aircraft.
Thank you Walt.
Wow, I really like the paint and weathering work on this build. Very realistic - well done!
Thank you Greg!
Rafi , this is great , I've never seen this kit or the aircraft for that matter , it would look great next to a Sunderland, great job. Gun positions in the wings , only Blohm und Voss would do that
Thank you Neil.
This result is amazing, Rafi @blackmopane
The weathering is done exactly right, just like the paintwork.
Two thumbs up.
Thank you John!
Just a beautifully finished aircraft.
Thank you John
Very nice work on this seldom-seen kit Rafi. You definitely got the most out of what was in the box.
Thank you Tom.
Awesome work on that big beast, the paint and weathering is very realistic.
Thank you Chas!
