North American P-51C Mustang "Apache II" - USAAF 99th FS, 332nd FG Tuskegee Airmen – Ramitelli, Italiy 1944
Hello dear iModelers,
Here I am back after long months of absence, with a P-51C "Red Tails" of the Tusgekee Airmen, and more precisely Apache II piloted by Lieutenant Henry "Herky" Perry.
This is the Tamiya model, started 28 years ago (gasp), and which I finally decided to finish. I encountered some setbacks, notably the plastic which had shrunk in places and become brittle.
Few photos exist, and I had to improvise in places, notably for the mast and the antenna wire. The external tanks are Eduard resin models that I allowed myself to "dent a little", as is often the case in reality.
Hope you like it, and thank you for reading!
Oct. 21: some addtional pictures. Thanks for watching!
28 years ago! Don't know what kept you from finishing it but this is a natural metal beauty! Trés impressionant (especially the canopy btw.), Stéphane @stelaire!
Thanks Felix 😎
28 years - excellent age for fine wine and single malt scotch. I think you're lucky you rescued this when you did.
Really nice result!
Great result, Stephane! Better late then never.
Very nice work!
Wow, talk about a long build, Stéphane (@stelaire). It really looks great, so I am glad you finished it. I build a lot of old kits and I run into hard and brittle plastic on many of them.
Awesome result, Stéphane! Great that you decided to finish it after 28 years!
You gave it a perfect finish after 28 years, Stéphane @Stelaire
A nicely chosen Red Tail scheme, the dents in the fuel tank are a good idea and look great.
To all, many thanks for your kind words 😎
Looks fabulous- looking forward to seeing more of your work! Hopefully sooner than 28 years from now 🙂
Looks great! The finish is very nice.
Greta looking build and a great job on the pilot figure!
It looks very nice in the outside photographs, definitely worth the 28 year wait.
