Heller Messerschmitt Bf-109F 1/72 scale
I consider this build to be somewhat of a test for myself. I wanted to see if I could build a German aircraft using mostly craft acrylic paints and still have it look convincing, as if I only used RLM specific colors. I mixed various shades of green along with neutral grey and a bit of black to achieve the different tones. The hand brushed yellow was also a craft acrylic paint. The only RLM specific paint I used was #76 Light Blue, although you can't tell because the underside is so heavily weathered! Using the kit supplied decals posed no problems. An oil wash of raw umber was applied to the model along with some dry brushing. In conclusion, this first Luftwaffe build of mine was merely a test and it was a way for me to try different methods and techniques. Thank you for taking a look.
Works for me. Jg. 54 used some pretty wild schemes
Ah yes, the Green Hearts! Thanks for the comment.
Well done, John (@jdtruby). You really pumped some life back in this old kit. I just found several of my old Heller kits in the garage and I think I may build one or two.
Sure, give one of those old Heller kits a try. You just might like it. Thanks for the comment, George.
Iβm no expert on colours but it looks very good, good work on this old kit.
Thank you kindly, George.
Looking awesome, John! Excellent job on those acrylics!
Thanks so much, Spiros!
You did really well on your first Luftwaffe build, John @jdtruby
The colors do match the original ones perfectly and your brush painting skills on the yellow are superb.
Thank you, John for the kind words.
Very nice work, John @jdtruby! π I'm nearing completion of my first 109 since I was in grade school. Your model is great inspiration for me, sir! π
It's so nice to know that I'm an inspiration to others. Wow!
I think you passed the test with flying colours. I like this plane in your design.
Thank you very much, Milan.
It turned out beautiful. It's nice to give life to old sets.
Thanks Lis. I think the older kits need just a little more love.
Very nice job on this 109 John. It really looks the part. The craft paints work great when you take the time to work with them, and there a big money saver too. I have a lot of craft colors, and have used them with great success myself on different models.
Thanks Clint, it's kind of interesting to try out different paints and experiment with different shades of the same color in order to get the result you're looking for. I have one more Luftwaffe 109 done mainly in craft acrylics. It's almost done and should post it hopefully in a week or so.
Great little 109! I enjoy bringing life to these old kits too (Frog, Heller, etc.), and you did great work with this one.
Thanks Greg, stay tuned because I have one more 109 painted mainly in craft acrylics that's almost done. Hopefully I'll post it in a week or so.
This looks awesome John @jdtruby. Love the color. Sorry I missed the original posting π
Better late than never! Thank you for looking and for your nice comment.
