ACCESSORIES:
Montex Mini Mask: This is a good mask set - great fit but a little lifting. This was a relief since my last Montex set for the Airfix Javelin was terrible - only some of the masks fit - I'm not sure what they were doing there. As for this set, you get inside and outside masks but no wingtip light mask. Regardless, these masks are a real time saver.
THE KIT:
This is a very nice kit from Airfix. The fit is excellent and the surface details were precise and prominent. Some may find the panel lines too prominent but I like them. My one beef with this kit is that small parts were very prone to breaking which is surprising since the plastic is soft and flexible. Some nice touches on this kit include:
- optional canopies/glass for the turret,
- weighted tires
- optional one piece closed gear doors that can be used as painting masks
The kit decals are really good - they lay down very well with Micro Sol and Micro Set. They are also printed precisely and in-register.

Another nicely finished Airfix kit, Richard, always good to see, I’ve always had a soft spot for the Defiant.
Yeah, I love the turret. Not a very successful plane but very cool looking.
Excellent build - looks nicer than the Classic Airframes build I did many years ago!
