Model Trailways Horse Drawn Hearse 1/12th scale

January 16, 2024 · in Uncategorized · · 26 · 213

While I await the weather to cooperate so I can get to my next project (Kawasaki Ninja H2R) I have been encouraged to share this build.

The kit itself was kind of junky most of the wood parts except the wheels were great, laser cut basswood. The wheels were some kind of composite wood and were difficult to work with.

The rest of the kit was white metal and it was pure garbage, but I did the best I could. Most of the wood pieces need serious sanding and or carving.

The spokes had to be shaped once installed and looked fairly decent when done. Then coated with the rubber strips.

The coffin, to me, is out of scale and didn't have handles so I bent some brass wire and made my own.

I used an enormous amount of black paint…LOL

The carriage lights were tricky as I had to form and polish the lenses to fit.

But all in all it came out pretty well, but I would buy another kit from this company nor would I recommend it to anyone 🙂

I site and of trying to insert the pics in the text I am just going clump them all at the bottom…otherwise it will time out on me

  2. A great decision to post this wonderful build, Cricket @bikequeen
Not an easy ride considering all the extra effort you had to put into it but your persistance clearly payed off.
    Absolutely realistic indeed.

  3. Well done, Cricket!

  4. Now that’s something we don’t see everyday! Well done, Cricket.

  5. Something different and an absolutely awesome build, Cricket!
Your build thread was a joy to follow.
    Well done!

  6. And now for something completely different! Cricket, @bikequeen, I don't think I have seen anything like this, here or even at a local model show. I like it! I think you did a great job with what you had and have a great looking hearse. At 1/12th scale, I bet it takes up a lot of room.

  7. As said elsewhere, not something one sees every day. Really nice work on this and a superb result despite the problems.

  8. I, too, am glad that you decided to post this build for all to see. You've put a lot of effort into this project and the end result is just marvelous. Bravo! @bikequeen

  9. Great to see it here, Cricket, it’s more than worthy of a place in the deadlines, or do I mean headlines?

  10. Great looking result on a unique build. Somebody’s headed to Boot Hill.

  11. Drop dead gorgeous hearse!

  12. The result definitely looks worthwhile. I hope you're proud of it.

  13. It looks great, love the detail. You really begin to appreciate how something is built when you built an accurate model kit.
