Premium Hobbies 1/72 P-47D

February 4, 2024 · in Aviation · · 23 · 186

Having seen these at Amazon for $15 I decided to try one. Did not know what to expect but what it turned out to be was an Academy rebox. Sure seems to be alot of that gong around these days.

No mousetraps, above average detail, great fit...a fun and trouble free model to build. Painted with Tammy fine grey rattlecan primer under a coat of very r******d Tammy X-1 Gloss Black (r******d probably 40% so the paint had time to level out) I let it sit for 10 days to cure up hard. Next came three coats of Alcad II Polished Aluminum which was covered with two coats of Alcad II Aquagloss which were followed with the anti glare panels (XF-1) and decals.

The instructions called for OD anti glare panels but I decided the flat black looked better so I a bit invoked artistic license with this one. A splendid little kit.

  1. Much to my surprise a certian word was edited here. For clarity the word refers to Tammy Acrylic paint retarder.

  2. Excellent job, Mark!

  3. That's an impressive build, Mark @markh
The anti glare panels do look great in black, a nice contrast with the red accents.

  4. Nicely done Mark, looks good.

  5. Neat build of a great plane. Out of interest, which unit did this ship belong to?

    • Thank you sir

According to the instructions it's supposed to be the 315th Squadron, 324th Fighter Group, 12th Air Force in early 1945. Am uncertian of this however, as we all know sometimes manufacturers don't do their homework

  6. Great-looking Thunderbolt, Mark (@markh). I have seen these on Amazon and was wondering about their origin, and now I know. Well done.

  7. A great looking build. @markh

  8. Came out very well, Mark, sounds like you spent more money on the paint than on the kit.

  9. Great job on your gorgeous looking Thunderbolt!

  10. A nice looking Jug! Those Academy kits can build up nice - I just finished an F4U (post next week probably). I like that they're pretty trouble free.

  11. Thanks, they do and they are, anything that went wrong with this one was my fault not the model's
