1/72 Marine SBD-1 Dauntless
A couple of years ago I replaced my Airfix "Sail12" SBD-3 Dauntless (below) with a better Hasegawa kit.
Rather than leave the old kit sitting on the obsoletes shelf I repainted and redecaled it for 2-MB-1, the commander's aircraft for VMB-2 in August 1940. Several aircraft sported these markings, but the specific one here is BuNo 1597.
It's not a detailed or particularly accurate build - I just wanted to see what the decals looked like, and boy do they pop!
Very nice— love the pre-war yellow wings colors!
Great facelift on your older Dauntless. Certainly does 'pop'!
Great job giving new life to an old kit Michael @mcsmith1964
Michael, beautiful restoration.
Excellent result, Michael! Great decision to go for a facelift!
They both look very good, Michael.
Looks great after the restoration, Michael @mcsmith1964
Looks great, nice redo. Those old yellow wing paint schemes really do pop, especially when sitting on a shelf next to aircraft painted in combat colors.
Excellent redo into a Yellow Wings scheme.
Nice restoration - looks good with yellow wings.
Looks great.!
This both are beautiful models.
Two good-looking birds! Well done.
