V-2 Rocket, One of Germany's Vengeance Weapons, 1/48 Pegasus Hobbies E-Z Snap
Every once in a while you see a kit and buy it on a whim, because it is just kind of different and fun. That was the case with this model of the V-2, Germany's ballistic missile. The kit itself is remarkably simple with a very low parts count, somewhere around 15, and everything fits very nicely.
The V-2 was one of Hitler's Vengeance weapons and was supposed to turn the tide of the war. It was a remarkable weapon whose significance was not lost on the allies after the war. The scientists involved were scooped up and ended up in the various allied countries after the war working for their new homelands.
During the war approximately 3000 of these rockets were launched against allied targets, resulting in the estimated deaths of 9000 civilians and military personnel.
The model itself went together without much effort, and was actually fun. I glued all the seams and started prepping for paint on the first night. I chose the splinter camouflage which was actually quite a challenge, but I do love the way it looks.
I couldn't just leave well enough alone so I decided to put it on a base, and add a figure to give it some scale. This is a big missile, I was surprised at how big it was in 1/48th scale. The figure is from ICM's German Luftwaffe Pilots and Ground Personnel kit No. 48082. The figure is very well molded and looks the part. I am not good at figures, but am fairly happy with the results here.
I also went to Tinkercad and drew up a quick name plate that I printed. I painted the name plate with MrMetalColor No.214 which is Dark Iron. It sprays on as a flat dark metallic gray, but once dry you buff the paint and it polishes up. It is amazing paint and I like the way the name plate ended up looking.
Looks fantastic, Walt!
That splinter camo really pops up and the figure looks great, as well.
What a big model!
Well done!
Looks good. Something you don't see all the time.
Impressive result on this V2, Walt @luftwaffe-birdman
Especially the splinter camouflage looks great.
Well done on all, Walt. Like the added fig to give a sense of size.
I can't imagine how much tape you used to mask this paint job, Walt @luftwaffe-birdman. Well done.
Excellent model. I think it is more important as the common ancestor to both the Soviet and US space/missile programs.
Really nice, Walt @luftwaffe-birdman. Good to see something out of the ordinary. Terrific camo.
Thanks everyone for the kind words, for what was for me a very pleasant distraction. It was also a chance to work on my figure painting.
