1/8th scale Norton GP Bike vintage kit from 1970 by Protar

Well, this is a terrible kit with even worse instructions. Somehow I managed to get it together, I'm actually shocked it's built.

My 29th customer build of the year. I did this to look as if it was found in a barn, so I could hide mistakes, lol. If you want to lose your mind, get this kit. has reissued this kit, I have to imagine they have cleaned up the tooling and redone the instructions.

was a company from Bologna Italy where they obviously consumed lots of wine while creating models.

  1. This looks very realistic, Rick @rickschad
It clearly shows that this Norton has been stored for many years in a barn.

I built the Italeri-version of the Norton earlier this year Rick. Looking at the parts in your pictures there isn’t a lot of difference. Maybe the manual by Italeri is better (it can be found on Scalemates I guess), still it was quite hard to build it. Compliments for your barn-version!

  3. Love the final result out of this very challenging kit, Rick!
    Well done!

  4. Wow. Looks great. Just wondering - I remember the Protar bikes being 1:9 scale. Maybe there were exceptions.

  5. Well done for finishing this old Protar kit, Rick, I remember the old Protar range was quite extensive, I also remember looking inside the boxes, it looked like black spaghetti inside, I kept well away.

  6. Regardless of how miserable the kit is, your result is great. Way to solider through.
