1/48 Israeli Mirage III CJ
While Italeri kits arent the greatest, they do tend to suck me in as the offer great subjects in great schemes. This is their Israeli Aces kit which had plenty of options to choose from. I decided on a natural metal scheme to test out my new AK Interactive paints. Unfortunately AK's "Black Base" turned to dust on me and really seemed to take the shine out of the finish. I'm still relatively happy with the result though.
As usual some history behind the aircraft.
The subject is Mirage III CJ (Shahak) 745. She is credited with three air to air victories. Uri Aven-Nir shot down a Lebanese Hunter on 5th June 1967. Followed by two victories the next day, 6th June 1967, whilst flown by Yehunda Koren, an Iraqi Hunter & Mig21 were downed. All three by use of the 30mm Cannon.
Last pic is No.745 of First Jet Squadron pictured during an official display after the Six Day War in 1967. It wears it's three 'kill' markings (as mentioned above). Seated in the foreground is the then Commander of the Israel Defence Forces, Lt Gen Yitzhak Rabin.
Very, very very beautiful build, Neill @neillroos! Amazing representation and nice background info - did not know they still made use of their cannon at that time!
Thank you for the kind words Felix! The Israeli's were masters of the cannon during that time!
Excellent model and nice historical background, Neill!
Thanks Spiros, much appreciated!
Very sharp NMF Mirage.
Thank you Dan!
Very beautiful looking Mirage , you’ve done excellent work building & painting this model.
Appreciated Jay!
Lovely
Cheers George!
Really nice result on this Mirage, Neill @neillroos
The NMF looks perfect to me.
Thanks John! Hopefully the Alclad black base will yield a better result on the next one!
The Mirage III is an elegant airplane, Neill (@neillroos), and your model captures the look perfectly. The NMF looks great. I have used AK Real Colors for a long time, but haven't tried any of their "new formulation" or acrylic paints. Sorry the black didn't work well for you, but the plane looks great despite the paint issues.
Thank you George! It was just the base coat that I had an issue with (this is apparently a known problem). The other colours are a dream to work with!
A nice looking Mirage, and great NMF work. Well done!
Thanks Greg! Appreciate the kind words
Another great Mirage, Neil. I built that kit as an Israeli example too, but camouflaged it. Yours looks better.
Thank you so much John.
