Messerschmitt Jet Bomber: Trimaster Me 262A-2aU2
Following Hitler's outburst when he found out that the new and promising jet aircraft would not be suitable to bomb England, the A2 variant was developed for bombing missions with two bomb racks. Later, a dedicated bomber was designed with a bombardier lying in front using a bombing sight developed for high speed bombing approach.
Two prototypes were tested but the War ended without further progress.
Trimaster's German jet variant utilizes the same mold of the fighter jet albeit the redesigned nose. It has accurate outlines, engraved panels, photoetch and white metal parts. A challenging build, but well worthy the results.
A poor use of such a lovely airframe, but an excellent model of it!
Thank you Greg!
A very nice build of this exceptional 262 variant, Rafi @blackmopane
It must have been uncomfortable to be in that bombing position.
Thank you John.
It looks very cramped, like the radar compartment in the 262B.
Very cool build, Rafi. I've always been intrigued by the Me-262 and all it variants. I'd really like to get my hands on a copy of Gen. Gallant's book " the Flying Sanatorium " I believe it was titled, about JV-44. It's been out of print for a long time, and very expensive if you can find it used.
Thank you Clint.
I am not familiar with the book.
Excellent result out of the challenging Trimaster mold, Rafi! Superb painting! Indeed, must have been very cramped for the bombardier, the model looks really cool, though.
Well done!
Thank you Spiros!
G’day Rafi (@blackmopane),
This is a great build.
You would have to wonder if this version was inspired by the P-38 Droop Snoot as I believe the operational concept was similar. This would be the lead aircraft for a formation of Me 262A-2s that would drop their bombs together on command.
This is one kit that I used to look out for in hobby shops. I believe Hobby Boss also have one in their catalogue.
Again, well done.
Liked!
Thank you Michael!
Well done. Just wasn't meant to be a bomber. Sometimes Hitler was his own worst enemy.
Thank you Chas!
Unfortunately, for too long.
