Tamiya 1/12 Repsol Honda RC213V '14, Marc Márquez
Presenting the Repsol Honda RC213V motorcycle on which Marc Márquez became world chamion in 2014.
The reason I build this bike is because it was gifted to me by my daughter. What more to wish. Besides being a fan of various car racing catergories like Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3 and Indycar, she is also in real favor of motorcycle races.
While visiting Rotterdam we coincedently, sort of 🙂 , ran into this large hobbyshop and my daughter found this Tamiya kit of Marc's motorcycle on which he won the championship.
Of course I could not decline when she requested me to build this for her.
Although this was my second motorcycle build and I should have known where to look out for, it still challenged me from time to time. One of the most valuable additions to this kit is the extra front fork detail up set, although quite expensive, it is fully worth it. Drilling out the vent holes in the rear disc break is a lot of work but doing this it will look much more realistic. One of the things I learned from the previous bike build, is to not wait until the end to provide a clear coat, in that case also the scrubbed tires will get a glossy coat which does not look that realistic. This time I coated each constructed part seperately so that a final clear coat at the end of the build could be left aside. The tires do look matt this time like they are being used on the tarmac. At first I was a bit worried about the decals which had to follow a lot of roundings and I was thinking about having them painted. After some advise of a fellow modellers, I continued using the decals and they worked flawlessly.
In the end it took six months to complete it and besides some minor things that I could have been done better, I'm pretty happy with the result and I enjoyed every moment of it, and most important, my daughter is happy with the outcome as well.
Thanks to everybody who followed the building thread and gave their comments and compliments, and of course a special thank to my daughter giving me this opportunity to build another motorcycle.
Excellent work on your build, John @johnb. This is an awesome looking motorcycle!
@v1pro, thanks a lot, Bob. Really appreciated.
Georgeous work John, just as Mr Tamiya intended! Im sure your daughter is pleased to have had you build this so beautifully.
@pb_legend, thank you, Andrew. She definitely is pleased, now we need to get a signature on that build.
Great to see it here in headlines, @johnb, I thoroughly enjoyed following your build, and I’m sure it will have a special place in your daughter’s Moto GP display.
@chinesegeorge, thanks a lot, George. It was a pleasure to have you following along. The bike definitely had a special location.
Nice job, John!
@gwskat, thank you, Gary
Well done, John. You even put some wear on the stand’s small wheels.
@j-healy, thanks a lot, John. You zoomed in very closely to see that. Likely they got worn during assembly 🙂 . With this, you must have seen all imperfections as well.
Fantastic job and awesome result, John! Excellent build thread, too! This is a gorgeous Honda!
@fiveten, thank you, Spiros. It was a pleasure to have you following along.
Like this very much. I find these large motorcycle models very appealing, especially when done right like yours.
@gwfabian, thank you, Greg. Glad you like it. Tamiya did a great job in adding all those details.
What an amazing result John… Congratulations! I’ve been following your build in the group and am impressed with your patience and attention in working your way through everything. Really impressive.
@hptiggelaar, thanks a lot, Harm. It took a while before completing it. Patience was definitely required for the decals, quite a lot of them and not the easiest I worked with.
Those 6 months working on this kit really paid off, John @johnb. Outstanding looking bike and a great companion to your blue one. You successfully won the battle with those decals.
@eb801, thank you, Eric. Some areas could be improved but are not that noticeable. Still happy that I used the decals instead of painting them.
A beauty John, really nice job chap😎❤️
@chrisballard, thanks a lot, Chris. Glad you like it.
Very nice solid build. The extra work you did really does make a difference. So good to be able to make your daughter happy while enjoying your hobby.
@luftwaffe-birdman, thanks a lot, Walt. What more to wish than a happy daughter and her happy old man, just because of a model 🙂
A great looking bike build John, just love the front suspension detail. Decals look cool too.
@firelockg, thank you, Ian. The front suspension detail set is indeed a great add on. Well worth the money.
Spectacular build on a true legend. What a machine
@neillroos, thans a lot, Neill. Honda, together with Marc were really dominant at that time.
Good one John, I hope to see more, I will build mine one day !
@kalamazoo, thank you, Allan. I wish Tamiya would release some more kits of modern MotoGP bikes or F1 cars. Looking forward to your build.
How about a Jack Miller Ducati !
@kalamazoo, that would be nice but I cannot find a Tamiya kit of the Ducati from Jack Miller, only diecast models.
One of your best, John (@johnb). Wonderful paint scheme, brilliantly executed.
@gblair, thanks a lot, George. It was for sure an enjoyable kit.
Man, that bike is really something, John @johnb. 😃 That is terrific scale modeling and really looks fantastic! 🤩 What a result! 🏆
@garybrantley, thank you, Gary, for those motivating compliments.
Great! This is real rubber or paint?
@lis, thank you, Bernard. Those are real tires, no paint.
Really good looking
