Mazda MX-5 NC
This is the third generation Mazda MX-5 which was sold 2005 – 2015.
The kit is Fujimi's Mazdaspeed Roadster, #4633. Typical Fujimi, the kit is well designed. The kit has a fully detailed engine bay (Yay!). Fujimi even provides pre-cut masks for the windows, a nice touch.
The paint is Tamiya TS-89 Pearl Blue lacquer. The color is intended to match Red Bull's F1 cars. Turns out it is also a close match for Mazda's Stormy Blue Mica. The paint is beautiful but proved difficult to work with. It is somewhat translucent, so it doesn't like to cover sharp details. This also results in different depth of color depending on the number of coats. If you need to repaint an area you end up with a mismatch. I finally worked out a technique by pre-painting the ridge areas with decanted paint and a brush. The seats are a custom blend of Tamiya acrylic.
With this build I now have a complete MX-5 collection, at least until Mazda releases a new version MX-5.
Awesome MX-5, Ken!
Thanks!
Nice work, Ken. I Love Mazdas.
Sharp paintwork.
Nice looking MX-5, great job!
A very fun looking build Ken! Great to see all four in the family shot now, all artfully done. 🙂
The colour really suits the MX5, Ken, nice work.
Great finishes. Nicely done.
Terrific interior and good use of your garden retaining walls for the family shot, Ken @kenk.
Beautiful MX5, Ken @kenk
Looks great in blue, as does your entire collection of Miatas.
She looks beautiful.
I will have to add this model to my acquisition list. I owned an '06 MX-5 for 17 years and it was always a blast to drive. It was absolutely bullet-proof and never broke-down.
I have a 2001 LS. Purchased it in 2003.Now 125K miles and still drives beautifully
