Tempest

October 16, 2024 · in Aviation · · 8 · 69

Bought this on impulse at my local (only) toy shop a couple of months ago... at one point I thought about giving it away, but I'm glad i didn't. Like the wee Jet Provost, this - IMHO - is a future classic. It's a gem of a kit, build quickly and builds well with virtually no filling, nice details not too overdone. Main undercarriage is a little too fiddly and for a Series 2 kit could definitely been a little more straightforward but 'owt to complain about.

Paint is Tamiya Ocean Grey & RAF Dark Green (slightly darkened) acrylic and Mr Color lacquer Medium Sea Grey altho' I think this is too dark for 1:72. Decals from the box. As you can see I've tried to leave a 'ghost' of the upper surface invasion stripes, which sort-of worked, please tell me what you guys think, I'd really like to know as I'm very tempted to try it again on something bigger in the future. All for now, but there is something very bright and close to finishing that hopefully I can show you early next week. In the meantime all comments, q's and crits' are welcome. Have a great weekend, cheers from NZ in the Spring !

Ian.

  1. Excellent work on making this a great looking Tempest,.

  2. Very fine build & finish. Right-on with camo work.

  3. Excellent Tempest, Ian!

  4. A superb build, Ian @ij001
Hard to believe this is just a 1/72 model, looks much bigger.

  5. Great looking build Ian. I built the clunky Academy kit in the late 90’s and was never happy with it. Good to see Airfix finally did the Tempest justice.

  6. I like the "ghost stripes." That's a hard effect to carry off and you really got it.

  7. Well done, Ian. I thought it was 1/48 at first.

  8. Excellent work - and yes, the ghost stripes came out nicely. I may have to give that a spin soon...
