German Baureihe 52 with Steifrahmentender, Schwere Plattformwagen and King Tiger (1/35)
This should be my masterpiece since restarting the hobby about a year ago. What a build (and work) is has been. But I'm very happy with the result.
This summer I was able to buy the Trumpeter Baureihe 52 mit Steifrahmentender (00210) for a good price. I decided to use it for my interpetation of the German response to the Alied military operation Market Garden (september 1944).
German commander Model, who was known for his improvisational talent, ordered to send all possible armored units that the Germans could miss to the Netherlands. Tank units were put on trains across Germany via Blitztransporte. These Blitztransporte meant that the tank trains were given priority over all other train transport. Even German tank units from Denmark and Austria were sent to the Netherlands. Some of the German tanks were sent to North Brabant, south of Nijmegen, to prevent the Allies from sending troops and equipment to the north.
After finishing the Baureihe 52 and including a Flakvierling (Tamiya 35091) from my stash, I bought a Schwere Plattformwagen Type SSyms80 (Trumpeter 00221) to go with it. The Tiger II B Königstiger (Das Werk 350013) I had in my stash could figure as one of the 28 brand new tanks of that type from the Schwere Panzer Abteilung 506 that were transported to Arnhem. After building it I found out during transportation the Germans used smaller tracks on their King Tigers because of the tight tunnels and low platforms. They replaced the tracks after arrival for the usual bigger ones you see on my Tiger. So maybe I'll find time to build another one in the future to replace it. 😊
I hope you enjoy the finished composition!
Nice job, Harm. I'll bet this takes up some shelf space.
It does! That will a problem to solve after my next build. 😬
Well done Harm, @hptiggelaar a very nice build. I really like the train with the sheilds and painted in camo. I know its a big display. I would love to do one in 1/48th scale for sure! Great job on your "masterpiece".
Thanks Walt @luftwaffe-birdman. This in 1/48 would be nice indeed. I wouldn’t mind to build that one again.
Wow, what an amazing bit of work. Actually, more than a "bit." Excellent result.
Thanks Tom!
Yes, that's a Masterpiece! Well done.
Thanks Chas!
This is really wonderful, Harm @hptiggelaar
Not only the size, also the build quality is impressive.
You already told me about this project but I could not imagine that it would look this wonderful in the end.
I'm really interested to see this one in real sometime.
Well done.
Thanks John! I enjoyed it a lot. I’m sure you’ll see it irl once.
Excellent result, Harm!
Thanks Spiros!
Fine work, sir! 👍 Congratulations on your excellent result, Harm! 👏
Thanks Gary!
