Minicraft, 1:48 Scale, Grumman XF5F-1, "Skyrocket".
Grumman's first attempt at a carrier based, twin engine heavy fighter. Lessons learned from this would be used to develop the outstanding F7F, "Tigercat".
Model is built straight from the box. I added a couple paper strip belts. Paint is Tamiya acrylics for the interior and yellow wing, and Tamiya lacquer 'Aluminum' for the rest of the airframe.
Kit is a decent kit and fits pretty well. Needs a LOT of help with detail in the wheel wells and cockpit. Conforms to the basic age in which it was released. Now you can find them under the Academy name.
Decent kit, odd subject and a fun build.
Thanks for reading, y'all.
Nicely done! Man, that is one odd-looking critter!
Indeed a very nice build, Frederick @fjs3
Well done, Frederick!
Gorgeous work on a kit that is cheap, yet results in a great looking aircraft, with only a bit of care and hard work. Nice showing!
Thanks guys. I’ll have a couple more in the pipe that may or may not reach the finish line.
Excellent result, Frederick!
Just got the Academy release... it comes with all the parts for both versions, so I'll be doing the late long-nose version in the tri-color scheme. Assuming I actually get to it, of course...
Nice work Freddie. This looks great.
Nice build, Frederick. I agree with everything you said. I built both versions many years ago. There was an Eduard photo-etched pack for the cockpit, which I used, but nothing for the gear wells.

Nice build. I did both versions long ago, nice simple builds.
Nice work! Looks great with yellow wings.
Easy to build, fun kit. Everyone should have one. Yours looks terrific, Frederick.
Looks like something from a 1940s version of Star Wars. Nice job!
