High altitude Spitfires

January 11, 2025 · in Aviation · · 10 · 259

Two role Spitfires are presented here. The first is 's 1/48th IX converted to the high-altitude role including a non standard painting scheme that later became the form for PR aircraft in the RAF service. The model represents an aircraft flown by Flg. Off. Emanuel Galitzine of the Hight altitude flight, Northolt 1942.

The second Spitfire is 's 1/48th scale presentation of the Mk. VII. The aircraft was flown by Sqn. Leader James O'Meara, OC N. 131 Sqn, Colorne 1944. I added flaps from an Eduard set and replaced the kit's wheels. Both models have the Aeromaster decal set.
Comments that I received on the latter:
1-There is a solid pressure bulkhead at the rear edge of the fixed rear portion of the canopy
2- the fixed rear part of the canopy ( known as a "LoBelle" hood) extended to the level of the sliding part of the canopy
3-There was no cockpit door, nor are there any panel lines where the door was
4-The canopy had an external track to slide upon, and there were thick rubber seals at both ends of the sliding canopy
5- The landing gear on the ICM Spitfires are about 3mm toot all and they need to be reduced

The landing gear issue was known to me and was already corrected in the model presented.

  3. Great looking builds!

  4. I can only echo all of the above. Did you mix the colors or are they stock from a supplier?
