iModeler at the movies, stand in for the Mig 15, the F-84F, Airfix 1/72

January 27, 2025 · in Aviation · · 8 · 119

Harken back to the old group build, iModeller at the movies, this one was seen in The Hunters. Several F-84s were done up as Mig 15s against Robert Mitchum and F-86's. This is still a nice kit, a bit old maybe they could revamp the molds.

  1. Nice work and interesting paint scheme on this old Airfix kit, Robert @roofrat. It’s hard to build these old Airfix kits and have them turn out well. You did a fine job making this one.

  2. Excellent job and very interesting and attractive scheme, Robert!

  3. Very nicely done, Robert @roofrat
Never seen it in this interesting scheme before.

  4. Well done, Robert. A unique way to portray a scheme

  5. I like the idea of recreating the colour schemes used in the movies, well done!
In fact, the film "The Hunters" contains some truly captivating scenes of the F-86 and we can turn a blind eye to the F-84s standing in for the Migs that were obviously unavailable for filming in the 50-ties.

  6. Robert: I remember "The Hunters" movie, and thought it had great aerial action scenes. The movie was supposed to depict the air combat during the Korean War, and was generally a good film.
Your model came out great; I like it.

  7. Excellent! To paraphrase Robert Mitchum in the movie "Looks like 'Casey Jones', Daddy-Oh!"

    • You took the words right out of my mouth. I watched that movie many, MANY times as a kid. Back then, you couldn't get a proper kit of a MiG-15 or an F-86 either. The only model available was the Aurora F-86D.
