Fairey Battle mk. I Azur / Frrom AASF, France 1940.

February 17, 2025 · in Aviation · · 26 · 269

First of all, I invite you to watch the video. I think this time I managed to present the new product I built to the first person on YT. I waited a long time for a good Fairey Battle model and I finally got it. The construction of the model is without any major surprises, everything fits as it should. You can practically build it in the OOB system. It's good that the manufacturer thought about the possibility of opening the pilot's and gunner's cockpit. All that remains is to wait for the manufacturer of the masks for painting, because cutting them out by hand is a pain. I chose the painting from the box presenting the aircraft from the RAF 226th Squadron from the AASF in France. This, as well as other squadrons, suffered significant losses before being withdrawn to England. However, I will insist on believing that it was not a bad aircraft, at most poorly used, not in accordance with its intended purpose. It was a light bomber, not an attack aircraft, and it was used in this way for almost the entire French campaign. In addition, without the protection of its own fighters. The recipe for disaster is ready. So I encourage you to watch the build video and recommend this new model to anyone who likes the early RAF period.

And Captain R will return...

  1. Great job, Bernard (@lis). This wasn't an easy kit to build, and it came out perfectly. Figures really add to the overall presentation of the airplane. Well done.

  2. Very nice Battle and diorama!
    Well done!

  3. The model and the photography are beautiful. Awesome work on this model. It’s not a common subject we see on imodeler, nice to see something out of the ordinary.

  4. This is a fantastic result, Bernard @lis
I liked following your build thread a lot.
This Battle is definitely on my wish list from now on.

  5. It's nice to see one of these done. I do like the way the camouflage blends in

  6. Nice work and a great result.

  7. G’day @lis,
Trumpeter have just released a very nice Battle in 1/48 (I’ve seen one in the box) and I could believe this was one of them, rather than 1/72.
I remember building the Airfix 1/72 kit( in my youth) in Belgian markings for something different.
You are right, the Battle is symbolic of the brave but futile efforts of the RAF in the battle for France.
You certainly have done justice to this kit.
    Liked!

  8. Beautiful work Bernard @lis! Yes you are correct about lack of training, misunderstood or improper utilization of equipment.
