North American X15, 66670, NASA, Edwards Air Force Base California 1961.
1/72 Monogram, I shortened the fuselage and removed some things to convert the kit back to the original X15, hinged the rudder and elevators also scribed the panel lines, finished in Revell and MM enamels with Future and Xtracrylix flat over kit and spare decals. built between 2010 and 2016.
Nice build looks like something you would race on Bonneville salt flats.
Jim, there a great project idea- a Bonneville record car based on the X-15. Land speed record, here it comes! 🙂
Thanks Jim.
Allan, great work on this, I like the changes you did, gives it some more character. Still the best and only one in 72nd. Classic Monogram!
I have the B-52/X-15 in the stash. Got one the last time it surfaced.
Thanks Bernard, are they 1/72 ?
I'm not Bernie, but yes, the B-52 is in 1/72nd scale. If there's a kit/set made by Monogram & sold together, I'd have to guess it was 1/72, like the single. I had the B-52 model years ago & it was huge!
Jeff, thanks. Cousin Bernie was having a senior moment. Yeah, 48th B-52 and gerbil habitat! I'd be in a van, down by the river...
Aaauugh! Sorry! Yes, 172nd. God forbid I had a 48th. My wife would do BAD things. It's the Revell 2011 boxing of their B-52B/X-15 combo, which I think is it's second time out. I missed it first time, in their "young Astronaut" boxing. It's a big 'un! Be nice to have a 72nd B-29/X-1 to go with it. Scratchbuild, one suspects, on that.
Very nice build Allan! I'd love one in 1/48 as well. It's an iconic aircraft for sure. Is it true that X-15 pilots received "astronaut wings"? It really was a winged spacecraft in many ways. 🙂
A few did, at a certain altitude, not sure how high.
Thanks Gary, yes, as Roberts comment !
Gary, I've seen stuff I still can't believe molded lately, you might get your wish. There is a 48th X-15 out there by somebody. Special Hobby, maybe? Aurora had a 48th one years ago, in the 60s I recall. I stuck to the old box scale Revell. The Monogram now Revell 72nd is waaay better.
I'm going to be on the lookout for one; it does seem I read a review of one years ago when I subscribed to FSM.
Well done, Allan...I like that.
Thanks Craig.
You definitely have eclectic tastes! Very nice build.
Thanks Greg, I do !
STUNNING! Well done. This is by far THE X-plane !
Thanks Morne.
Great conversion, nice to see, did one out of the box awhile back.
Thank you Robert.
Lovely! This IS the ultimate aerial speedster!
Nicely done, Allan!
Thanks Jeffry.
