Year In Review 2017
Well, I started off the year with an experiment: a 2017 build plan (see here if interested: http://imodeler.com/2017/02/2017-build-plan/ ). I ended up completing 4 of the 11 proposed builds, and 7 total. I got distracted by group build opportunities and other surges of inspiration, like Ben Fulcher's Privateer build! I don't think I'll attempt to propose a build plan again!
In completion order, I finished a Yak-17 (Special Hobby), an E7K1 Alf (Hasegawa), an F-111A (Italeri), an SBD-2 (with some substantial scratch-building)(Hasegawa), an old P-39D (MPC/Airfix), a Sundowners F-5F (Italeri), and the Jaguar GR. 1A (Hasegawa).
I did launch into the Matchbox Privateer, but that has been a slog as I'm having to scratch build all of the turret details. It will finish sometime in 2018, but I'm afraid it's slowing me down. I do plan to finish my Hurricane for the Kasserine build, and a Javelin for my club's 50's era group build (although I just opened the Heller box this weekend and discovered a malformed canopy - ordered a Hawk replacement Javelin already!).
So - no more build plans! I'm gonna just tackle them as the inspiration/opportunity strikes (or Group Builds beacon)!
I hope all of your Christmases are blessed, your Christmas stockings hang heavy with modeling accessories, and your gifts have the lovely rattle of styrene when shaken!
Hey Greg , I really like your work ,so varied and always a terrific finish, happy holidays pal.
N.
Nicely presented (no pun intended)...Merry Christmas, my friend.
I love your builds Greg, really good stuff. Tell me, "When are you planning to put the undercarriage lever down" Keep up the good work. All the best, (The roll of plastic I bought myself for the next build does not fit in the Christmas stocking).
Note to self - get a bigger stocking!
Will the garage do... nice one
Impressive Greg. All the best.
I really like the Alf and F-111 nicely done man!
A great review of great builds, In some ways it's more difficult doing gear up builds, as I'm finding out with my latest build.
Greg you have done so many great builds throughout the year. I appreciate the builds you did for the Midway and the YOTC Group Builds. They all look great.
Merry Christmas Greg.
That's a 'Magnificent Seven' Greg - a really great haul for the year - in both quantity (I think 7 is significant) and in terms of quality. Teach one is very impressive. To be consistently at that high standard you must be doing something very right! Hope Santa smiles and you with some cool plastic! Have a happy holiday!
Greg, your work really is an inspiration. Love them all. I'll be picking your brain on how you present them, with the acrylic rods. So clean, and so much better than the stuff being sold out there. I need to do it your way!
Nice haul for the year Greg, very impressive. Have a Merry Christmas my friend.
A worthy years work there Greg, just looking at these pic's I think I like the E7K1 best but they are all lovely, merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas Greg! Lovely group of builds from this year, all looking fantastic. And no build-planning for me, allways like to build what's pulling my attention, or the nice GB's here on iModeler offcourse. Cheers!
I flew five of my 101 combat missions during the Vietnam war in F-111A, 67-065 while assigned to the 428 TFS/474 TFW at Takhli RTAFB, Thailand.
@trod348 - wow! Thanks for the tidbit. Hope you liked my rendition... 🙂
Greg, you did a very nice job on that Kit. The ECM pods and weapons load is just like we had.
Hello Greg,
You did very well in 2017. Regards, Dirk / The Netherlands.
A good year in all then! You can always tell your builds mate, they have a certain style about them. Nice collection.
Stunning builds, Greg! Really love how good they look posed in air. Happy holidays!
