Douglas X-3 Stiletto 1/144 (Dragon & Shelf Oddity)

March 9, 2019 · in Aviation · · 6 · 2.4K

Looks fast, isn't it? Douglas engineers designed this research airplane with intention of investigating speeds of around 2000 mph. Well, they forgot to tell that to engine designers. X-3 was so underpowered it could not exceed sound barrier in level flight.
First flight took place in 1952, last - 1956, with very limited data gained from total of 52 flights.
Still, it definetly is a looker.

  1. Good-lookin' work, sir...I like it!

  2. Looks great! It does look fast.

  3. Is that a Frenchman playing with your stiletto?

Great work, Leszek. Really like the base, show the aircraft off very nicely.

  4. Looks good Leszek.

  5. Great job, Leszek. I have an old Revell X-3, that I think was 1/65th scale, that is begging to be built. I think your build has inspired me to do all the extra work and scratchbuilding that this kit will need. On second thought, maybe I'll follow in your footsteps and build the 1/144th kit. :o)
