Further progress on the big B-17G - painted!
I ended up sitting this thing on a bar stool outside and walking around it to get all the paint on. Four different shades of Alclad, and it took half a bottle of Duraluminum and a third of a bottle of White Aluminum for their areas. Decals next. I've got things set to photograph it next Saturday out at Chino, so should be able to give it a "realistic backdrop."
That is one extra-large sized chunk of styrene. What does it weigh? Best leave the machine guns for last as well.
It's surprisingly light weight. Maybe a pound at most?
Looks like a real challenge Tom, cant wait for you to get the stickers on.

Tom, that's not what a bar stool is for. I'd be glad to come by and show you the proper use for it. Nice work on the B-17. With the right background (Chino) it should be the most realistic one yet... but I'm still concerned about that bar stool...

Looks like the 800Ib gorilla in the modeling room. Taking it to the airport and shooting pic's seems to be the only logical thing to do given the kits size. Looking forward to seeing a pic of the decals on this one.
Hopefully the FAA will issue the VNY-CHN ferry permit in time. 🙂

Amazing model and so very BIG. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Nice work, Tom. I understand the kit has a 'wall-hanger' option. Will that be more practical than standard storage/display (just curious)?
You have to keep the bomb bay open, and I personally think .015 wire around the tail is a safer option.
That must be the Tamiya 1/48 Lancaster as well in the photo? You'll have to take a photo of the B-17 together with a person so that we'll get an idea of its size!
