It’s Not Spock
Inspired by the new-tool Airfix Vulcan, which I immediately put on pre-order the day that was possible, I pulled the GWH 1/144 Vulcan K. 2 out of the stash as my last build of 2019. On the whole it's a nice kit for 1/144 scale.
The cockpit includes seats and two pilot figures but, the windows are so small and clear parts so thick that you can't see anything, especially with a black interior. The wheel wells have no detail but, they are boxed in so if one wants, they can be easily spruced up. The jet intakes appear slide molded. They are one piece with the intake face at the bottom of the long housing which makes them a challenge to paint. Surface detail is probably a bit overdone but, looks fine under a couple coats of paint. The decals were almost impervious to decal softening solutions. I used Tamiya, Microscale, and the strongest one I have, Walther's Solvaset, and I think the only reason the decals conformed at all was because I pressed on them with a cotton swab.
I masked using frisket paper (the Vulcan is the perfect aircraft for frisket IMHO) and painted it with Testors Model Master colors.
Even though I'm posting this one in 2020, I finished it in 2019, but was too busy during the holidays to take photos! That made 14 kits finished in one year; a happily productive modeling year for me!
Nice work. The subtly mottled colors are cool. Hopefully this tides you over until the Airfix version arrives.
