The saga of 63-7544, F-4C, 1/72 Revell/Monogram.
F-4C-19-MC BuAer No. 63-7544, roughly the 141st F-4C manufactured, originally delivered In the gray/white scheme and with the Navy style inboard pylons. Apparently it had a short life, part of the 8TFW, and the 480th TFW, 366TFW. where it was lost in December 1966 either to enemy fire or friendly fire near Danang S.V. [according to Forgotten jets site]. I originally posted the photo of it in flight as a teaser for the upside down national insignia. I didn't know it's history then.
The kit is a 1990's Revell issue of the Monogram kit. The molds were showing their age by then, the clear parts being some what deformed. The kit is actually the F-4J, so I added an IR sensor to the nose ,and used the proper exhaust cans from spares. I also botched together the serial numbers for the tail. Seeing that this was an early camo job, painting over the gray/ white scheme after a first coat on the bottom, I applied the large insignia and then over sprayed with white. trying to replicate the in flight photo, finishing it off with the upside down insignia.

For those who may be interested, Fundekals is coming out with a sheet of these early F-4Cs of the 8th TFW, all aircraft flown in Operation Bolo, in 1/48. It's interesting enough that even I (!) have gone out and purchased an Academy F-4C (since the Meng kit is only available at damnfool prices on eBay now) in anticipation of this. I'm going to do it as Ralph Wetterhahn's airplane (first to down a MiG in the battle) since he and I have become good friends. Ralph also provided a lot of information for the sheet, which should make it a "must have" for Phantom Phanatics.
@tcinla If only they'd print a set in 1/72! Give me another excuse to add to my Phantom project...
