DH112 Sea Venom FAW Mk.53 RAN, SCAT (Frog) 1/72
I found this pre-owned kit about a year or so ago for the grand price of $7. It's the SCAT 1/72 DH112 Sea Venom dressed as Royal Australian Navy FAW Mk.53, built part of the DH-100 Group Build - thanks to Erik Gjørup (@airbum) for creating that group.
This kit was previous released by many - Frog, Novo, and other variations.
Painted with Tamiya Acrylics, XF-24 & XF-21 and X-18 and finished with Micro-Satin.
I found a set of pre-owned Frog Decals which seemed in excellent shape and they went on quite well except for the 'Keep Off' area signs being a bit off register and new red lines were laid on top.
Only when taking photos, I noticed the front gear door is on the opposite side.
Thanks for viewing
This is such a fantastic Sea Venom out of the very old/basic/crude-ish Frog kit, my friend George!
You did a wonderful job there, adding all those details, transforming this oldie into a beautiful Sea Venom.
The scheme you chose is great, which you represented perfectly.
Congratulations on your little gem!
Thank you Spiros (@fiveten)
Tried to make this FROG in to a Prince.
You did, my friend @georgeswork! You did!
And here it is, looking great, definitely liked.
Thank you, George (@chinesegeorge)
Beautiful build of this RAN Venom, George.
Thanks John, (@johnb)
My first Aussie bird, won't be my last.
That turned out great, George. It took a lot of work to get that kit looking this awesome!
Thanks for your comments John (@j-healy),
Nice to see someone else take on those old basic kits! You worked this one into a great-looking model. My guess is the Pioneer kit I built of this was also from Frog molds, with some white metal and vac formed canopy thrown into the box... Still, the can build up nicely with some TLC, as you've proven!
Thanks Greg (@gkittinger)
It's getting tougher to build the older kits when there are so many great higher tech releases, but the older kits old sure remind me of my younger builds.
My problem is I've been adding to my stash so long I've got lots of these old things still around, and it's hard to spend the money for these new high-tech kits when I've got a $5 kit of the same thing in the stash!
Very clean George. Such an interesting plane.
I love those older kits. They can be a lot of work to make look right and yours sure sets a good standard for that.
Thanks Bernard (@bernardbedeur),
it does appear to have the proper shape and looks great next to my Frog mold Sea Vixen.
Well done. Great work, George.
"Frog" kits...recall them from 1970's Saturday morning trips from Stamford, CT to the Long Island, NY Squadron Shop. Frog and Matchbox...they had a ton of 'em but I only bought 1/2 ton.
Thanks Bob (@bails)
I'm running out of Frog mold kits - only an A6A intruder and Canberra are left in my stash. I can't remember how many Matchbox kits I built.
Nicely done George, a handsome model of a Frog kit.
Thanks Allan (@kalamazoo), happy I finally have an Australian plane in my display.
The first of many ?
Well done George, that old dog will hunt with a little bit of work. I like it.
Hello George,
Nice result out of this "Collectors Item "kit. Skills and patience must have done it.
Looks great.
Regards, Dirk / The Netherlands.
If you kiss the frog do you get worts? lol. Great job on an ancient kit!
Thanks Gents, (@tom-bebout, @orion, @roofrat)
Just gotta say, no Frogs were kissed in the process of this build; although, I'm sure it would not have hurt to try.
