1/72 Tamiya F4D-1 Skyray
I am calling this one done. 1/72 Tamiya F4D-1 Skyray. Painted with MRP paints. Its OOB with the exception of added seatbelts. Markings are from Starfighter Decals and depict a aircraft from VF-141 the "Iron Angels" aboard USS Essex CVA-9 in 1956.
Beautiful result with this model of one of the most beautiful jets ever built.
My friend Admiral Denny Wisely attributes his survival and his accomplishments in A2A combat in Vietnam to be the result of two years he spent in VU-3, flying the Ford and hassling everyone he came across. He says it was the most maneuverable jet he ever flew, and his logbook includes F-8s and F-18s.
Exceptional result, Geoffrey, hard to believe this is not the 1/48!
I agree with @tcinla : this is an absolute beauty of a jet! And a great, pure interceptor!
Really nice Skyray, Geoffrey. I love the subtle pin wash on the gull gray. I would have sworn it was 1/48, rather than 1/72. Very good detail.
Awesome, Geoffrey (@caabreu). I agree with Tom: one of the most beautiful jets ever built. Well done.
Great choice to built and absolutely very well done.
This is a real beauty! Great job.
This is a nice looking aircraft and your build and finish is spot on! Nice work.
I gotta agree that the Skyray is a beauty as was the Skylancer design.
That kit looks top notch as does your build, great looking model.
Fully agreen with all previous comments, Geoffrey @caabreu
An awesome build, especially because of the size.
Nice work on this one, Geoffrey! The Skyray is one of those planes that looks good from every angle.
Beautifully done! I also like the Skyray - gotta get mine built someday...
