Avro 504K 1/48

January 9, 2022 · in Aviation · · 20 · 1.7K

Blue Max Avro 504K completed. RFC/RAF 8 Training Sqn 1918. Not an easy build with the pewter parts but it's the best 504 around in my opinion. EZ line rigging.

  1. A wonderful build, Paul!
The Blue Max is indeed the better kit.
I have the ancient SMER to build one day that I will feel very brave... 🙂

    • Thank you. 🙂 Good luck with the Smer. I hear it is actually 1/50 scale.
I was lucky to get the Blue Max. Trying very hard now to get an LVG kit. Not easy to get, or build. LOL/

  2. I'm peechless, Paul @paulwoodyvanacker
    The rigging looks fantastic.

  3. Paul, this is a most gorgeous contraption! I love the simple markings and the plenty wires keeping it from falling apart. I always hoped Wingnut would produce a 504 in 1/32, but...well.

  4. What a product! Given that I know the basics, you really did a great AVRO on that scale. Surely someone will soon offer a modern kit.

    • Thank you. Maybe one day, but I wouldn't imagine it'll be one of the mainstream companies that continually churn out 109s and Spitfires. (Not a bad thing but I've done tones of them already.)
      Fingers crossed. 🙂

  5. Nice work, Paul. Those Blue Max kits are becoming rare.

  6. Great looking build, Paul. Well done.

  7. There's no BM kit that isn't difficult. I did this one myself, so I know what you had to overcome to get to this great result.

    • Thank you. Yes I saw the wonderful job you did on yours.
I'm looking for some of the others now, the LVG etc. I can't imagine there will be another produced by anyone else anytime soon. I got a Sopwith Snipe so it'll be on the to do list soon. ?

  8. Masterful work, beautiful rigging .

  9. Very nice - personifies the "held together with baling wire" concept! You did a great job with the rigging.
