Lancia LC2 - Italeri - 1/24
The Italeri 1/24 scale Lancia LC2 is my entry in the 100th anniversary of the famous Le Mans 24 hour sports car race over in the groups section here on iModeler. The race traditionally starts at 4:00 pm, and the drivers are anxiously waiting for the start signal.
About the car
The LC2 was the Italian manufacturer's answer to the new Group C regulations introduced in the early 1980s.
It featured an aluminium tub.
And was powered by a Ferrari twin turbo charged V8 engine designed by Abarth.
The main sponsor was the drinks company Martini, and the car featured their distinctive livery.
Although the LC2 had the speed to compete with the Porsche 956, it rarely had the reliability. Despite qualifying second at Le Mans, all three cars retired with mechanical problems.
Lancia had a policy of using up and coming Italian drivers, including Patrese, Alboreto, and Nannini.
About the kit
First released by Protar in 1984 it perhaps qualifies as a “vintage” kit, and was re-released by Italeri in 2019 with updated transfers by Cartograf.
Despite its age it makes up into an attractive and accurate kit.
It inherited a driver who had escaped from, I think, a Tamiya Porsche, who needed some surgery on his legs in order to fit into the “Italian” driving position.
It's definitely a kerbside kit with no engine detail at all.
The only other additions I made are night time illumination lights for the racing numbers, fashioned out of filed down household pins.
The Martini stripes took a while to settle down but don't look too bad, thanks to Cartograf.
All in all an enjoyable kit, and thanks to everyone who followed the build over in the Groups section, especially my good friend @anthonyricco who started this anniversary build.
@chinesegeorge - Turned out great George! Your writeup is interesting to read and the build was fun to follow.
Thanks for your support, @brithebuilder.
Amazing! You've produced a beautiful replica. I need one of these kits, I didn't know Italeri had reboxed the Protar kit.
Thank you, @tankgrrl, Italeri have reissued several original Protar kits, cars and motorbikes.
Nicely done, George.
Cheers, Robert @roofrat, thanks for taking the time to look.
Really well done, George @chinesegeorge. Gotta love Cartograf decals. Looks a bit small next to that watch.
Cheers, Eric @eb801, the Cartograf markings were superb, the watch is a Daytona, where there is also a 24 hour race.
Clean car, George! Very nice.
Thanks, John @j-healy, they broke down too quickly to get very dirty.
Great decal work George, leading to a super result.
Thank you, Tom @tcinla, it’s certainly a very attractive colour scheme.
A fantastic result, George!
An equally amazing build thread!
Congratulations!
Many thanks, Spiros @fiveten, your help and support is much appreciated.
What more to say, George @chinesegeorge
A perfect looking Lancia.
Thanks for sharing your building progress in a very interesting thread.
You’re always very kind and generous with your comments, @johnb, it’s very much appreciated.
It does look good George, well done.
Thanks, Allan @kalamazoo, after the Cartograf transfers went down well I was most of the way there.
Great result George @chinesegeorge as well as an interesting build thread. It is nice to see one of the "not so famous" cars being modeled to such a great standard.
Thanks very much, @rory, it’s a shame Lancia didn’t get the results they deserved.
I'm liking it. A Lot.
