Monogram AV-8A Hawker Harrier, 1/48 scale
Hey Party People!
This is the latest addition to my "Good From Afar but Far From Good" collection: Monogram's AV-8A Harrier. Decals are from Furball. Napalm tanks are from true Details. Sidewinder missiles and exhaust nozzles are home brew - I designed them and printed them at home.
This was a fun build but I also feel I could do better. My next Hawker Harrier will be from Kinetic, so that will define whether the problem is me or the kit.
As always, all comments and critique are most welcome. Help me make the next one better!
A fine build for your fine Good From Afar but Far From Good collection! Love a Monogram '48 and especially an early Harrier. I used to see the Cherry Point ones flying over my summer camp in the 70s.
Thanks Paul! I bet it was pretty cool watching them fly overhead. They are especially loud, too!
An excellent build, Ramon!
thanks Spiros!
A great looking Harrier, Ramon @anvil6
Thank you John!
Nice work dressing up that old 1/48th Monogram kit to make it look respectable 🙂 - Cheers
Thanks for the kind words!
Super-nice.
thank you!
Great build Ramon with a great play on words. Fantastico
Thanks dude!
Proof positive that you can still get a great looking model from the old Monogram and Revell kits, Ramon (@anvil6). It looks like a Harrier, and that's good enough for me.
thank you George! It took a bit of effort and determination to get the result I did, and many lessons were learned in the process. Those classic Monogram kits are fun, but I think I am looking forward to a Tamiya Tomcat so that I can get through the build and onto my favourite part: painting and weathering 🙂
This turned out really well. I like the look of the early Harrier schemes.
Thank you Dan!
nice work! This kit was one of my first builds when I got back into the hobby decades ago - yours is definitely more well done than mine! (don't have mine anymore - got rid of all the 1/48 builds...)
Thanks Greg! There are still plenty of areas needing improvement on this build but we do tend to be our own worst critics 🙂
Excellent paintwork, Ramon. You really captured the essence of the Harrier.
thank you!
