Airfix Gloster Gladiator Mk.II 1/72
I enjoy building late 1930 / early war planes from the RAF. I like the planes and i find the schemes interesting. So naturally i have wanted to build the Airfix Gladiator for awhile now. The kit is great except for the cockpit door, its molding being somewhat blurry and thick. Other than that the kit is great.
I used a SMS rigging set which is really helpful with the wings made up of single pieces, so no drilling would have been possible really. But make sure not to bend them, otherwise they won't look thight. I used a piece of plexiglass to cut them. Unfortunately, i rushed a bit with the superglue. This resulted in some nasty blobs, especially on the upper wing.
I used AK Interactive acrylics, some panel line wash and some oil. A matte varnish in the end. Also, i tried to come up with a little diorama. By using rain puddles from AK Interactive i tried to replicate some muddy field during the phoney war.
I enjoyed this build very much and plan on doing more RAF planes from 1939/1940. Airfix have a great Hurricane in 72nd scale, a Blenheim and of course the Wellington from that period. Now they need to come up with a Fairey Battle and an Anson in 72nd scale (and of course a new Dragon Rapide). I am thinking about starting a group in the Battle of France group, would anyone care to join?
Merry xmas everyone!
Excellent work, Felix!
Thank you, Jeff @inchhigh
Nicely done Felix. Very attractive camouflage.
Thanks a lot, Russel @russjurco. Yeah, i love those early war schemes a lot!
Beautifully done, especially regarding the scale, Felix! Count me in for a Battle of France group. Sounds a great idea!
Thank you very much, Spiros @fiveten! Great to have you on board, i look forward to doing a group build for the first time.
Nicely done Felix.
Thank you, Allan @kalamazoo!
A wonderful Gladiator, Felix @fxrob
I fully agree that those early English WWII aircraft are very interesting.
Count me in for a Battle of France group as well.
Hey John @johnb, thanks a lot! It would be awesome to do a group build together, i have an Airfix Hurricane and a Wellington in the pipe 🙂
Well done, Felix. Like the display
Thank you, Gary @gwskat! Making the display was pure fun.
Totally nailed the groundwork
Thanks, John @johnaitken. The dio was a lot of fun! I will do more of them for sure. They add a lot!
What a great looking model, Felix (@fxrob), and it is in 1/72. The rigging makes my hands shake and my head hurt. Well done.
