Hasegawa 1/32nd Fw190D-9
This kit was built almost out of the box and went together without much assistance from me, the only additions being some light riveting, p/e belts, and brake lines from wire. Paints are Floquil RLM 04 Yellow, 76 Lichtblau, 81 Dunkelgrun and 82 Lightgrun. The last of these did not seem vivid enough compared to color photos, so I added just a drop of Scarlet to brighten it. Decals from Eagle Editions.
The model represents a plane flown by Oblt. Hans Dortenmann, one of the successful nachwuchs ("new growth") pilots who rapidly became an experte and survived the war. His 18-month Jagdwaffe career began on the Russian Front with 2./JG-54 in February 1944, where he was credited with 14 victories. After being appointed Kapitaen of 2.Staffel, he took his outfit to France with III/JG-54 in July, his unit then redesignated as 12.Staffel.
Due to compression caused by attrition and allied-dominated airspace closing in on three sides, III/JG-54 was absorbed by JG-26 on February 25, 1945 and his squadron became 14./JG-26. Excepting 4 IL-2's, 1 B-17, and an unfortunate Auster, all of Dortenmann's claims were over fighters- including 4 Tempests. As the noose tightened further around Berlin in the late Spring, he ended his combat career as it had begun- by shooting down two Yaks in late April. 18 of his 38 confirmed claims were logged while flying the Fw190D-9, making him the highest scorer on the variant.
Beautifully done Dora...one of the better ones I've seen. Expertly finished.
Eirk... Very nice, one of my most favorite German aircraft and you did it proud.
I like this one a lot Erik!

Magnus
Definitely one of the best models made from this "ace-maker" kit I have seen. It may have come together without a lot of effort from you, but what you did from there one is all you, my friend.
Fantastic model Erik. Well done.
Excellence.
Very nicely built and a very convinving weathered finish.
Can't believe I haven't yet tried one of these largescale Doras myself... someday!
From what I'm seeing this model is a Ten. Its too bad that people are low balling some folks. I know Erik has a wide body of work and is very consistent ... the voting should be focused on the work and not the number of models submitted.
