1/48 AMT P-40E

September 7, 2015 · in Aviation · · 13 · 1.8K

Been stuck on building 's lately and just had to finish this one. Only problem was no canopy in the box. Another modeller from this site offer one up and presto we have a Lend Lease P-40E.. The A/C depicted was flown by P. A. Pokryshev, a Hero of the Soviet Union, Leningradsky Front, 154th IAP. I used AVI Print for the decals.

The underside was hand bushed in duck egg blue acrylic, the brown was rattle can Model Master light earth, and the Model Master dark green was airbrushed .I enjoy doing all techniques. I added an Ultracast seat, and some True Detail wheels to help her along. Some pastel chalks was used to dirty her up a bit and I fashioned a small spring to hold the nylon antenna wires. Fun build. I want to mention that though I don't comment on all the models posted I must state there has been some incredible work displayed lately and I have thoroughly enjoyed the views. Really admire some of the excellent modellers that use this site, really fine folks for sure.

  1. Glad to see you got it together. Looking good.

  2. Hand painting, airbrushing, rattle cans AND pastels...sounds like you about covered the various "techniques" mentioned, Tom...turned out well.

  3. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
Nice work ! It is so refreshing to see a P-40 under a different scope of things, the plane in it self is a great site. Showing it under a different nationality insignia and remembering the Lend Lease program, is a very nice touch.

  4. Thanks for the comment. Up next another P-40 done as a MkIA with the RAAF in North Africa.

  5. Nice build there, Tom, and I like the fact that another iModeller was able to help with the canopy.

  6. These Lend Lease schemes are always attractive.

  7. Nice P-40 Tom, and glad to see the mix of techniques!

  8. P-40's are just so good looking, yours is no exception. Nice work, the Russian livery suits it well. Oh that's an Otaki, by the way. I can tell by the recessed rivets.

    • Thanks Bill, and yes I've been told AMT/ERTL bought the Otaki molds. For the life of me I don't understand why some company doesn't do a full model series on the P-40. Can find some models with certain manufacturers but not a full series from B thru M with one company.

  9. Nice build, interesting paint scheme, well done. But when I think P-40 I always think Tiger's Teeth on the engine area, it's funny how a bit of difference in paint or insignia gives new life to a "typical" build.

  10. Whoa! Nice looking P-40 Tom, very well done indeed.
