SR-71 What If
Another WIFFER! It was a cold snowy February morning when I started this project. It was too cold to go outside and play so I decided to do a quick build from my dollar stash. That's a model you pick up for a dollar at a swap meet. As I got it glued together I thought "that is a lot of black and I know there is a nice looking airplane in there somewhere". So I painted it ADC gray. Got some decals from my leftovers box and Budda Bing, an very fast interceptor!
A nice wiffer, looks convincing.
Nuthin' wrong with a little imagination, Bruce...probably the first example of an ADC Blackbird. BUT...now you'll have to give it a different name.
Weapon of choice? Turbulence?
Nice use of imagination! She looks good in ADC grey.
Very good use of the imagination, nice clean build.
Quite attractive
Very nice...CAT colors on the next one ?
The earliest days of the project, there was an 'interceptor' version built, five or so, IIRC, they were in service for a few years, everything about them is still classified, AFAIK.
Lovely gray! I've seen a few pics of the earliest A-12s (the interceptor version Merrill mentioned) in, I think NMF - Natural Metal Finish, (if new to the site & not used to the initials use) and I think Black is BORING! I understand, however. Not to mention, the black was also engineered to be more than simple painted-on camouflage, but an integral part of protecting the plane from heat & friction. But the gray looks great!
The SR-71 is such an awesome bird, anyway in almost any paint scheme. Just think: one painted in US Navy WWII tri-color - wow! But no camo version, please! Too odd.
Unless you WANT to, of course!
This IS the point, right? Right!
Right.
Bruce, great idea! Might have happened.
