I am a retired (recovering) lawyer and trying to pick up this hobby again after 40 years absence. I have both more time and patience than I did 40 years ago and it relaxes me to have a manual task. Plus I have always been fascinated with WWII aircraft and made my first models as a kid with white glue and without paint (my mom wouldn’t let me have paint after a few “accidents”). Other main interest is fly fishing, but modeling does not require a multi-hour drive.
This is a famous plane that probably needs no introduction. Petie 2nd flown by Lt. Col. John C. Meyer as CO of 478th FS of 352nd FG. Meyer scored 24 aerial victories and destroyed 13 planes on the ground. After the war he rose to the [...]
This plane was flown by Lt. Commander Roger Hedrick- coincidentally same last name as mine- when he served as CO of VF-84 on USS Bunker Hill in 1945. Hedrick had 12 total air victories including 3 in one day. His photo is included. He [...]
I had wanted to try a very distressed paint job and saw this kit online. I wanted to try Vallejo chopping medium.
This is a very nice kit. Fit is as good as you want. A few things to work on but mostly good.
Using the chipping medium [...]
This is a very old model. I had built it back around 1977 when I was in law school. Maybe Monogram then? I saw it at a local store on a very reduced sale so I thought I would give it a try for old time sake.
It really shows its age. [...]
The back story: In 1969 I bought a brand new Mustang. I was a senior in high school and had saved my summer job money for years. It was bright yellow with the basic 302 ci engine. Black interior. I took it to college the next year. [...]
This is a nice kit and goes together well. I only had two issues. The canopy sits too high so I had to file off the bottom to make it sit lower. The bushing inside the engine did not seat properly so the propeller shaft would not [...]
This is a nice kit with no fit issues. I did fret over the track assembly but after watching 4 YouTube videos on assembling tracks they came together pretty well.
After looking at countless pictures online I went with a two color camo [...]
This was a nice easy kit with good fit and few issues. Cockpit is not very detailed so I built it closed.
After some searching I built approximating a plane from II/jg 1 “Oseau” as it was in late 1943 with red rudder, numerals, [...]
Went to my local air museum today to see a B 25 that was flown in. WWII combat plane. Got to go inside. Awesome. I’ve been in Two B 17s and a B 24 and now a B 25. Good day.
I wanted to build an early 1944 Normandy version in the Sherman (75mm gun) to go with the E8 version I built earlier. Surprised how many differences there are when compared side by side.
Kit was easy and not a single fit issue. All [...]
