Flying Barrel What-if part 1!

April 26, 2013 · in Aviation · · 3 · 2.4K

Swedish cold-war icon Saab J 29 was known as the "flying barrel" and even if it made sterling service defending the Swedish skies, many people feel that it was never developed to its full potential. One of these people, we can call him "Lars", has handed out kits to lots of people in Sweden and asked them to "do something interesting" with them. And they did! To say the least! More than 40 of these amusing, bizarre and fantastic creations were displayed at the 08 Open show in Stockholm a few weeks ago.

  1. What a fantastic group project! The yellow one and the drone are truly striking and the Aeronavale version is just beautiful. Thanks for sharing these images!

  2. Although this is old now, I sure enjoyed the many humorous builds. Not only were they well built, they show great imagination!
    Thanks for sharing, Magnus!

  3. Blimey, this is too good! SEDAN, chubby winged starfighter wannabe and the 8-engine transport are the less-obvious ones, my heart leans toward the hi-altitude spyplanes.
