1/48 Monogram F-14D
Here is my Monogram 1/48 F-14D. It started life with the markings out of the box, which I found out later were incorrect- it can’t be stressed enough- look for pictures of the aircraft you are modelling! Nowadays with the internet, it is really easy to find images either through searches, or by posting on modeler websites.
I decided to refurbish the original build, as i really didn’t like the box decal options anyway, so in searching for alternative F-14D markings, I found these, which I liked very much (Superscale) – I also liked the camouglage scheme. I stripped the old decals, and re-painted, and put the new markings on.
I really like the way that Revellogram portrayed the exhausts for their “new” F-14 kits- but one thing to note is that you need to reshape the fairing on the port and starboard sides of the exhaust nacelle (the end cap as it were, just inside the stabilizers.) as the kit ones look like the ones on the A and B. With a little tape and filler, I rehaped them to the more square-ish F-14D ones. This detail can be noticed by looking for photo walkarounds of F-14D’s.
I am so glad to be able to get another kit on the shelf- well, in this case, get it back on the shelf! This summer, I plan to be working on other kits I have, that are languishing on what has been called by others; the “shelf of doom”.

Thanks for the comment- I am tempted to do some weathering over the flat coat, but I am really glad to finally be finishing kits that have been sitting for far too long!

Great Tomcat, Dan! I know from experience that kit is not the easiest to build, and yours looks terrific.

Nice Tomcat, I really admire the way you’ve virtually rebuilt your kit.

I wish I would have photographed the Before to show next to the after. I have an old F-4S conversion I hope to overhaul- so for that I will definitely do before and after pics…
