AgustaWestland Merlin – Airfix 1/48th
Here's Airfix's 1/48th Merlin, built out of the box with the exception of an Eduard cockpit set.
This was tricker than I had anticipated, with the tolerance between parts being very fine and many pieces needed a quick sanding in order to get a perfect kit.
That minor issue aside, it went together well, and makes for a large and impressive model.
Painted with Xtracolur enamels, and decals were as came in the kit.
Also, it is the first helicopter I've ever built!

A most excellent job...especially given it's your first rotary wing build.
Beautiful, helis are 'fussy', and that is one very clean build, well done!
that came out NICE! excellent work! i have that same kit in my stash, and i had the same issues with parts fit when i built the airfix Lynx. the tolerance was so close that when i introduced photoetched parts, it all got thrown out of alignment. thanks for the heads up on that! any more pitfalls to watch out for? i think i might start this one next year...
Other than the tight tolerance of the parts, it went together very well.
Nice work! Love model helos, The real ones have too many moving parts for me to feel secure around.
Bryan, unstable in 3 axes? What could go wrong?
Another boringly-excellent (is there any other kind?) Thomas Probert model. 🙂
First helo? Excellent job, you should do more of them, I did one and battled it all the way before completion.
Looks great! I've not done a helo - and hearing you guys talk about it, don't know that I want to! (Actually, if I ever accomplish my goal of "building one of every significant aircraft from WWII to now," I'd love to do some helos - but not sure I'll live that long...)
Greg, I admire your vision, and I hope you do. Both things. You a 72nd guy?
🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
The lines and style are very well displayed in this model, for sure it is an impressive helicopter. Nice clean build.
Thomas, Excellent, nice clean built. I don't built helicopters, but I like good models, This is a wonderful model.
Many thanks for the compliments, gentlemen.
No chopper is an easy build! You've made it look easy though, very nice!
Hello Thomas,
You finished it to perfection. My compliments.
