Hi Troy. The final piece looks just like models carved from wood and painted to order. I think they're imported from the Far East somewhere. There's a model shop near me that has a large display of such aircraft, and they are in fact quite expensive, by which I mean around £100 for a 1/48 Mossie, for example. I think it's the canopy that makes the comparison accurate. Interesting take on the subject. As to your 'not everyone's style' comment, modelling is a broad church and allows any number of interpretations.
"...not everyone's style..." or not, I think you did a bang-up job on this. It DOES look like a desktop model (and a good one) - I love it.
