1/48 Scale Mi-24 Hind-E
Hello iModeler!
Here is my Revellogram 1/48 scale Mi-24 Hind, converted to Hind-E standards.
i used Cobra Company Weapons Set and External Detail Set, Linden Hill Decals and Akan Paints (which I HIGHLY recommend!) For the weapons sight on the left wing, I used a bit of clear sprue pushed into a hole drilled out in the plastic. I scratch built the landing light on the left side of the forward fuselage with brass tube and a MV lens from the railroad section of the hobby shop. The back seat of the cockpit has some scrap sprue and photo-etch to busy up the side consoles. The tail rotor pylon was cut off and a new one was spliced on, with the angle of the pylon adjusted by 8 degrees to allow clearance between the main and tail rotor disks.
The funnest part was painting with Akan Acrylic paints. I shot them through my Sotar 20/20, undiluted with earthquake putty as a mask. Results as shown. I am now a HUGE fan of Akan paints and I will be getting more of them in the future!
Cheers!

Now that is an outstanding example of what can be done with the Monogram/Revell Mi-24 Hind kit. Yes it has it's inaccuracies, raised panel lines. Tail rotor is in the wrong position. But with help from the Cobra companies AM bits, some good ole scratch building, planning you get this! Well done Ramon. I built one myself and just finished recently, even with the Cobra bits it still nothing compared to this one. thanks for sharing an amazing Hind. Happy New Year!
Chuck

That tempts me to build an helicopter. I'm interested by your advice about Akan paints, thank you.
Ramon R. Lomeli said on December 29, 2015
Helicopters are cool Christian! they build like aircraft but you weather them like armor. Of course, I am a bit biased! 😉 Akan paints are available in the US at http://www.lindenhillimports.com/akan.htm . Not sure where in europe you can get them, but i imagine it would be easier since they are european in origin 🙂

Ramon, you've captured the look, feel and character of the HInd. Given the age of the kit and the modifications that you've made are professional to say the least.
Two thumbs up

Great job on the Hind. You got a very nice finish on that one. Man - those are some gnarly weapons hanging on that thing - what are they?
Ramon R. Lomeli said on January 1, 2016
Thanks Greg! The ordinance is a pair of rocket pods and some anti tank guided missiles under the wing tips. Both are resin after market from Cobra company.
🙂

Ramon,
Impressive result in your HIND!
Paints AKAN I also use, but I can say that a good result depends on the skill of the modeler and that you proved to be very skilled!
Congratulations on the beautiful model presented here!
