2015 – My year in review

January 1, 2016 · in Uncategorized · 17 · 1.8K

To all the authors, members and friends of iModeler - best wishes of a Happy New Year! Here's my modeling review of the period.

Firstly, I have finally completed my long-term build from last year, a 1/48 Tamiya Dewoitine D.520. This was finally finished in August, after a full year in the works.

That wasn't my only completion of the year, however. There has also been a 1/48 Hasegawa Bf 109G-6, a considerably quicker build that was finished in December.

...and here's my fairly advanced next project. Can you guess what it is?

Moving on to other events of the year, April brought a quick one-day visit to the Moson Model Show. An awesome experience and very inspirational.

In June, I've had my closest encounter with a Spitfire to date, at a local fly-in at Ska-Edeby. Seeing (and hearing) a Spitfire in flight is an awesome experience, but how about finding yourself unexpectedly at the end of a surprise "strafing run"? And THAT was low!

In July, holiday in the US, and a very pleasant day out at the Chino Air Museum under the expert guidance of none else but Mr @tcinla Tom Cleaver!

In November, a visit to the modeling show of shows - the IPMS UK Scale Modelworld in Telford. In the helpful company of @halvarvonflake Halvar von Flake. And we also managed a quick detour to the RAF Hendon museum!

In all, only two models finished but what an eventful and enjoyable year!

  1. Happy New Year Martin, you had an eventful year, good that memories abound with some time to be able to complete and start some projects. Keep up the good work, looking forward to a prosperous new year and new endeavours.

  2. Happy New Year, Martin. I´m glad I finally joined iModeler, you´re doing a great job. Not sure about the model but I get Japanese vibrations...Finemold´s Ki-10?

  3. Martin, both models finely rendered. Still puzzling over the biplane... I'm thinking Bulldog or Gladiator?

Looking forward to Moson report. Safe journey.

  4. I'm with Stellan, looks like a Perry to me.

  5. Very fine modeling. Is the spinner spiral on the Gustav hand painted, masked or a decal? Looks super.

As to the guess, I've not a clue. As another member put it to me- "If it doesn't have a cross on it, I wouldn't recognize it. If it is German, Ill be quite embarrassed!

  6. Thank you all. Stellan is right, the ongoing project is the Fine Molds' Ki-10 Perry.

Stan, the spinner spiral is a decal.

  7. Thanks for the review, Martin, most of all you must be very pleased with the continuing success of iModeler, a big thank you from me for all the work you do.

  8. Thanks Martin for all you fine work here at imodeler
You have brought together a fine bunch of model people here.
I also enjoy see that D.520 again.

  9. Happy New Year to you as well, Martin. Love this site and enjoy viewing the fine work of others that post here as well. Keep up the good work and hopefully you'll have another great modeling year in 2016.

  10. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
Very nice SPITFIRE video. Happy New Year to you and your family, as well as all your extension here in the forum. Thank you for this FORUM and your fine work with it.
It is always a pleasure too see another image of your Dewoitine D.520 .

  11. Happy New Year Martin. The D.520 and the 109 are looking good. Your next project is (Correct me if I'm wrong) Finemolds 1/48 Ki-10 'Perry'

  12. Happy 2016 Martin - keep up the good work on the site - I was going the suggest that your next project was the CR.32 Chirra - but I think that the K i-10 Perry is correct

  13. Actually it was a very fun day. I always like giving friends the "thorough" tour at Planes of Fame. So far as my look, I am no photographer's model, which is why I usually try to stay on the other side of the camera. 🙂

Thanks for creating the internet's best model club, Martin.

  14. Lovely work Martin.
A great site, with good friends.
    Thank you mate.

  15. Thank you all for all this fine words. And yes, it is Finemolds 1/48 Ki-10 ‘Perry’!

  16. Wow - only 2 completions - that would depress me, BUT I didn't get to travel as you did, and have the responsibility of keeping the best modeling site running so well!

Then again - it's not the completions that count, but the hours spent in creative bliss on the projects that make modeling worthwhile!

Happy New Year to you as well - now on to 2016...
