1/48 Tamiya Beaufighter XXI 93 Sqn Borneo RAAF

June 8, 2016 · in Aviation · · 25 · 2.5K

This is a joint effort. My oldest son started this a few years ago in a model club I ran at our primary school. I cleaned the parts he started up, finished the rest of the build and painted it etc.
He's happy with the colours I picked. Pistol Packin Gremlin.
Foilage green is anyone's guess due to the various shades, the climate, the company the tint came from dyeing the war... This us my take. 🙂
Hope you like. Aussie Aussie Aussie...:)

  1. Foilage green makes the Beaufighter look even more menacing. Well done this one looks great Paul!

  2. Good job ! Good chipping and weathering.

  3. Good-lookin' build...never see one that color, but what do I know, right?

    • Lol. It's a standard RAAF colour though there are so many variations. I will be doing a Boomerang in this colour and brown, with a white tail. Looks very striking. 🙂

  4. Nice build!

  5. Nice paint fade, Paul.

  6. Work is good, just in moderation. But it is doubtful chipped propeller blades. They should be on the cutting edge during the rotation of the screw, but you on the back. This small inaccuracy does not spoil the overall impression of the model. Very good!

  7. Great looking Beau - like others have said, nice shading, weathering and chipping.

  8. A beauty of a Beau.

  9. Paul, is that "Pistol packin' gremlin"? I was wondering if that was a squadron or an individual marking? I saw a picture years ago, someplace.
    Great work.

    • Hi Bernard, it's an individual marking, SK is the code for 93 squadron RAAF.

      • Thanks, Allan. Neat personal insignia! Is that available as a decal, someplace?
I'm beginning to like the overall green scheme, having seen two examples right here.
Sounds like foliage green is your olive drab.

    • Hello, yes it is PPG. Decals are from Red roo. Foilage green is a bit of a nightmare to reproduce cause it came in various shades depending on where it was painted. It's greener than olive, and some shades close to RAF dark green, in a way. Lol.

  10. Good model Paul, well done, tag it RAAF !

  11. Don't know anything about the green but it sure makes for a good looking Beaufighter.
