1/48 Tamiya P-51

July 24, 2016 · in Aviation · · 19 · 1.9K

Sometimes it's nice to do an easy build, so decided on this . Haven't done one in a few years, but choosing a colour scheme is so hard. Too many good ones. Settled on this...
Maj Richard Hewitt's Big Dick. πŸ™‚ P-51D-25-NA 87th Fighter Squadron/ 78th Fighter Group Duxford England, 1944.
Hope you like, thanks all, Paul. πŸ™‚

  4. Can't ever go wrong with one of those, Paul...looks good.

  5. Dick Hewitt - one of the best guys I met. Did a loooooong series of interviews with him for the Osprey "Aces of the 78th Fighter Group" book. Went from replacement 2nd Lt. in July 1943 over two tours to Squadron Commander. He lived the entire history of long-range fighters in the 8th AF.

    "Big Dick" is not a double-entendre - it's a throw in acey-deucy.

Nice work on the model. The Tamiya kit really is super. Hard to believe it's been around 22 years now.

    • Thank you. To do those interviews would have been amazing. Yes, the name is based on the dice etc, as well as his name. Great book incidentally. πŸ™‚ Love it.
