Classic Airframes Fokker DXXI 1/48
This is the Classic Airframes 1/48 Fokker DXXI that I built in 2013. A very labor intensive bit of work it was, but I am very happy with the end result. Unfortunately I do not have any pics of the interior build progress. It was a very intricate bit of work. Camouflage masking was achieved with the use of Prestik (as we know it). I also scratch built the pitot tube as can be seen in the photos. Gun barrels were replaced with hypodermic needles. Paints used were Humbrol and also a bit of Alclad II for the cowling front, which were applied with an AirCraft Air Brush. I really enjoyed building this kit. I find a great deal of pleasure building these limited run kits of unusual planes. Hope you enjoy...
Dean this is a Masterclass effort to get the best out of this kit. Amazing job on a kit that one don't see often at competitions. Well done!;
Thanks Morne, that's great praise coming from someone as accomplished as yourself. I really enjoyed this one.
Beautiful DXXI! Excellent finish and nice subtle weathering and detailing. I'm only disappointed you didn't upload more photos of the finished product - various angles and some more close-ups! I also love the short-run unusual subject kits - I'm working up Special Hobby's 1/72 Yak-17 and AviationUSK's 1/72 Myrsky II now, and I have PM Models 1/72 version of the DXXI to tackle at some future date.
Thanks Greg.
I shall endeavour to please your need to see more of this one from more angles :-). I decided to make this one my first blog and unfortunately didn't have more pics on file. I will take a few pics this evening and upload them. Love your collection of kits :-0
Now THAT's what I'm talkin' about! Thanks for the additional pics - and even under more detailed scrutiny, still stick with my original assessment about the great work!
Thanks Greg. Different camera and lighting changed the colours somewhat though.
Nice job on this, Dean...don't recall seeing one built before.
Thanks Craig. Much appreciated. Yes, they are. I haven't seen one either.
I went through two of these dogs to get one model. You've done an excellent job on this with a model that is more beaten into submission than assembled.
Wow Tom. TWO? You were lucky to get 2 :-). I'd like to see yours sometime. They're a bit of a challenge yes, but I kinda like fiddling with photo etch and resin. Thanks for the compliment.
Always liked the look of this aircraft, you've made it look great.
I like the look of radial engined planes Robert. Thanks, I appreciate the kind words.
Dean, beautiful job on a neat little airplane. First one I've seen built.
Thanks Bernard I appreciate that. I just had to build it when I acquired it.
Fantastic build ! You don't see many of these built... (In fact this is my first one.) I have the same kit but have only looked at it. Now you have me thinking... Great work Sir !
Thanks Louis. GO FOR IT! That's all I can say. If you like limited run multimedia kits that need a bit of work, like I do, you'll enjoy this one

Oh, and please blog your progress if you do. I unfortunately have no progress pics of the cockpit
Love this A/C, great job on that.
Thanks Bill. I'll be adding a few more views of it later.
Looks great, I have never built a CA kit, but I have heard the stories! This aircraft has always been one of my favorites, you did a great job!
Thanking you kindly Rob
The result was worth the effort, looks fantastic !
I find the end result usually justifies hanging in there Bernd. Thanks
